Multiple Group One winner Black Heart Bart could return from retirement in Saturday’s Group One Memsie Stakes at Caulfield.
Black Heart Bart has been nominated for the G1 Memsie Stakes this weekend but trainer Lindsey Smith says he will need to please in a gallop on Wednesday morning to be an acceptance in the race.
The former Darren Weir-trained gelding, who won five Group One races during 2016/17, was officially retired after finishing unplaced in the Toorak Handicap in October.
“Bart’s going to have a gallop Wednesday morning to see how he is,” Smith said.
“If he’s still a bit flat or something on Wednesday, he can still go to the Rupert Clarke but we’ll let his trackwork on Wednesday tell me that.”
Bookmakers don’t give Black Heart Bart much hope to return a winner if he does line-up in the Memsie Stakes field with Ladbrokes listing him as a $31 chance in markets.
