Beiwacht has invited comparisons with his sire Bivouac after his rout in the Group 1 Golden Rose on Saturday.
Godolphin now hopes the colt can emulate Bivouac by producing his very best down the Flemington straight later this spring.
At Rosehill, Beiwacht smashed the clock and his rivals by more than four lengths, a breakout display that surprised many given it was only the second win of his career.
Godolphin Australia boss, Andy Makiv, told The Verdict podcast that Beiwacht’s mercurial streak mirrors that of Bivouac.
“Funnily enough, he is very much like his father,” Makiv said.
“When he properly turns up, like he properly turns up.
“I’m sure you remember the days when Bivouac turned up and absolutely belted fields.
“If we can get some consistency out of him, and he is a horse that loves the Flemington straight, then he could be a really exciting horse for us, going forward.”
While an invite to The Everest looms after Saturday’s win, Makiv suggested he wouldn’t be shocked if trainer Chris Waller opts to freshen the colt and target the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes on Derby Day instead.
“That’s my gut feel,” he said.
“That’s the been his plan all along.”
Makiv added that the Coolmore Stud Stakes is pivotal to mapping the colt’s future.
“The straight then becomes quite a paramount thing for the autumn, and then maybe even a paramount thing to head to Royal Ascot,” he explained.
“There are a series of things in play if he can go and be the colt we can dream he can be.”
