Bjorn Baker will leave Warwoven’s early positioning in the hands of Rachel King after the colt secured barrier one for Saturday’s $1 million Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill.
Warwoven heads into the feature after winning the Group 2 Run To The Rose (1200m) at the same track on September 12.
The colt settled outside the leader on that occasion before holding off St Gotthard by a neck, improving his career record to four wins from seven starts.
Baker believes the inside draw gives King the flexibility to either use Warwoven’s natural speed or take a trail depending on how the opening stages unfold.
“From gate 1, he’s got natural speed, so we’re going to have the option to lead there or right behind the speed, and I’d back her to make the right decision,” Baker told Gareth Hall on SEN’s Giddy Up.
Baker described barrier one as “the most economical way home” and said Warwoven’s work on Tuesday was his best of the preparation.
“He looks great,” Baker said. “It’s been a smooth preparation and I’m really confident the 1400 will suit him.”
The Golden Rose has attracted a field of 13, including Golden Slipper and San Domenico Stakes winner Guest House, who will jump from barrier five.
Run To The Rose runner-up St Gotthard has drawn barrier nine.
Baker said King’s ability to remain composed under pressure gave him confidence to leave the race tactics open.
“Rachel King’s riding better than anyone at the moment,” he said. “She doesn’t get carried away. She doesn’t get too worried about the situation.”
