WIN OF THE DAY
A dramatic conclusion to the Roma Cup (1100m) with the outcome of the Group 3 race decided in the steward’s room after a dead heat. The Boss Lady declared the winner with Jokers Grin relegated to second place after a protest was upheld. There are two slots remaining in next fortnight’s Quokka, Jokers Grin already has one and The Boss Lady deserves one.
TRAINERS
Michael Lane has never shy in pushing up for The Boss Lady, a brilliant return winner in the Roma Cup. Quokka enquires are certain to be forthcoming. It capped a big day for the family with his son, Damian, riding Treasure The Moment to a Group 1 victory in the Australian Oaks (2400m) at Randwick.
Dan and Ben Pearce are well and truly in the conversation for a second Karrakatta Plate (1200m) after their filly Talkanco stamped her credentials with a gritty win over the fast-finishing Yes Queen in the Gimcrack Stakes (1100m). She was the cherry on top for the brothers after their all-female owned filly Sinful Living overcame equal top weight and proved too tough to run down in front.
Castle Road turned the Perth Stakes into a one-act affair, demolishing his rivals by 3.5 lengths when going flat out from start to finish for jockey Craig Staples. Trainer Paul Jordan has won this race twice previously, but never the Karrakatta Plate. Off a dynamite frontrunning performance, that could very well change in a fortnight’s time

Brad Parnham was involved in two close finishes in back to-back feature wins: Talkanco and The Boss Lady.
HORSES TO FOLLOW
Yes Queen was enormous in defeat. She showed versatility from behind. She retains Karrakatta Plate favouritism
A top return from Pond Master who had to be hooked to the outside when a run closed at the top of the straight.
Sixinch Heels carried 59kg comfortably with a powerhouse win from last. The Simon Miller-trained talent is four from four this campaign. She’s a flat-out winner.
Redemption for William Pike and Be Bardot. There was no way the chestnut mare was going to be held up for a second time, she was out of trouble out wide and erupted strongly to put them away with ease.
Audio Boy ran solidly on his return. He finished off well. Smart mare Be Bardot the only horse ahead of him.
Generosity wasn’t far behind in the Roma Cup. A quokka slot would not be out of place.
HARD LUCK STORY
A late barrier scratching for the well-considered Deltason in the Gimcrack Stakes.
Ahyeahrighto raced wide throughout, as too Boussac.
The rank outsider in the Gimcrack Stakes Fila Mia sprouted wings late after getting held up for majority of the straight.

Rope Them In didn’t finish the race out as you would have liked with the Quokka next
