Apprentice Beau Treloar bounces back from luckless run of injuries

Apprentice jockey Beau Treloar returned to the winner’s circle in inspiring fashion at Mornington on Monday, notching his sixth career victory and his first in nearly 12 months following a tough run of injury and illness.

The 21-year-old, who is the nephew of Group 1-winning jockey Wayne ‘Smokey’ Treloar, had been sidelined for almost half a year after fracturing his leg in a trackwork incident, just weeks after making a comeback from illness in May 2023.

His last win had come on May 17 last year at Cranbourne, where he partnered Squad to victory for trainer Gavin Bedggood. Unfortunately, the promising return was short-lived as the leg fracture halted his progress once again.

But nearly a year to the day, Treloar showed his resilience with a gritty performance aboard the Rob Blacker-trained Williamstown at Mornington, driving the horse to the line to land a long-awaited success.

“He just kept finding,” Treloar said post-race, clearly relieved and grateful to be back in the winner’s stall.

The win serves as a confidence boost for the young jockey, who has shown determination to bounce back from multiple setbacks, including an earlier broken leg that delayed the early stages of his career.
