Another Wil has emerged as the new favorite for the upcoming Group 1 Doncaster Handicap at Randwick following his impressive performance in the Prelude at Rosehill.
Securing his spot in the field with a dominant win, Another Wil has seen a remarkable shift in his betting odds, now priced at $3.50 to win with leading betting apps.
This dramatic turn of events comes just 10 weeks after his victory in a modest benchmark 64 race at Sandown, highlighting his rapid rise in grade.
Trainer Ciaron Maher expressed his delight at Another Wil’s success, emphasising the significance of the achievement for both the owners and himself. With jockey Jamie Kah guiding him to victory in the Prelude, Another Wil showcased his potential by outclassing his rivals and now looks forward to his chance to challenge the handicapper in the Doncaster, where he will carry just 50 kilograms.
Kah expressed a sense of anticipation leading up to the race, acknowledging her nerves. She described her mount, expressing admiration, stating, “Yeah, I was a bit nervous… I thought he was a freak, and he is one. It’s nice to see him do that.”
Reflecting on her experience with the horse, Kah noted his consistent behavior, remarking, “If I was riding him for the first day, I’d be a bit concerned but that’s him.” She recounted past instances, including trials, where the horse appeared fatigued beforehand but performed admirably when it mattered. She expressed satisfaction, saying, “But coming out, feels great.”
Despite the horse’s impressive performance, Kah believes there is more potential to be unlocked, stating, “He keeps stepping up and I still think we haven’t got anywhere near his peak yet. So, bring it on.”
Regarding her future rides, Kah’s participation with Another Wil next Saturday remains unconfirmed, given her commitment as the rider of Australian Guineas winner Southport Tycoon, who has 49kgs in the Doncaster.
