Race 1. (10:45) Darley Maribyrnong Plate (G3) 1000m
3 Jetsetter (Bet Now: $15.00) each way at double figures in the opener for me. Team McEvoy trained colt that debuts off the back of a couple of jumpouts and each time has moved pretty well, the latest seeing him win. Well educated and drawn to be near the rail, he runs a cheeky race I say.
6 Amelia’s Affair (Bet Now: $6.50) is a well bred Team Archibald filly that debuts. She had a trial last week at Randwick where she ran second and for mine, moved very well when second. Bred to come to hand early, she commands respect.
1 Royal Press (Bet Now: $3.40) has race experience on his side and that is going to carry him a long way. He debuted in the Maribyrnong Trial and didn’t disgrace himself when second after sitting on speed. Better for the run, he’s in the mix.
4 Lumineux (Bet Now: $26.00) is an interesting horse. Ben Brisbourne isn’t normally one to produce an early juvenile but this guy has had a couple of pretty solid jumpouts here and does get Craig Williams to steer. I say he’s a threat at a price.
Suggested Bet: Something small Jetsetter each way but not much confidence.
Race 2. (11:20) Pin & Win Community (Bm80) Hcp 2000m
I think the market has completely missed 11 Dad And Dave (Bet Now: $31.00). Just needed the run fresh behind Fiorenot before going to Caulfield again, working home really well from off speed. Getting towards peak fitness, rising to 2000m, maps to do no work…I think he’ll run a beauty.
10 Chispa (Bet Now: $6.50) is on the seven day back up after racing last Saturday in the Tesio at this track/distance. She got back to near last in the run and did make up headway but was never really a factor. Maps to settle much closer and be effective late.
13 Yauson (Bet Now: $2.90) is dangerous if there is petrol left in the tank. He was massive in defeat at Caulfield last time after sitting wide no cover and just couldn’t quite get there but his run was full of merit. Should press forward and be hard to beat.
3 Charisse (Bet Now: $51.00) ran last in the Tesio last Saturday, getting back to near last and did run last, but was far from disgraced. If she can use the gate and settle closer in the run, I think she’ll run very well at odds.
Suggested Bet: Keen to back Dad And Dave each way.
Race 3. (12:00) Tab One Pool Trophy (L) 1800m
Was hard to miss the run of 2 Star Of Macedon (Bet Now: $3.60) in the Gothic. He got too far out of his ground but loved the way he closed his race off in defeat. Getting towards peak fitness, 1800m at Flemington, he’s one of the hardest to beat.
6 Katoto (Bet Now: $5.50) comes through the Jim Moloney. She got a fair way out of her ground and while she was never a winning threat, I liked the way she kept chasing and finding the line in defeat. Another with the Chris Waller polish, she’s one of the hardest to beat at a price I say.
1 Mister Whiskers (Bet Now: $8.50) had front end control at Caulfield last time, leading throughout and credit to him, he was there to be beaten but he found under pressure to fend them off and score. He should land on speed once again and take running down.
10 Billycart (Bet Now: $14.00) is a very interesting horse. Tage Weir trained filly that beat up a decent field on debut and was very strong/dominant in the run to the line. Good test here but she looks a likely type and confident she can measure up.
Suggested Bet: Star Of Macedon to win, something small on Billycart each way.
Race 4. (12:40) The Schweppervescence Plate 1000m
4 Peyton (Bet Now: $6.00) was unwanted in betting a few weeks back in the Roman Consul, off a freshen up. He got back in the run and while he was never a winning threat, he was good late in the piece. Better for the run, can settle closer, hard to beat I say.
10 Gas Station Rose (Bet Now: $31.00) is several weeks between runs since racing over 1200m at Caulfield when off speed and was never really a winning threat but his finale was more than sound in defeat. Like her up back to 1000m on the bigger track, she’ll run a positive race.
3 Ole Go (Bet Now: $6.00) is a big, strapping colt for Michael Hickmott that comes here off the back of a first up win at Morphettville when on speed and despite being a bit keen, class came to the fore and he was too good. 1000m specialist I feel, he takes beating.
9 Jadzia (Bet Now: $15.00) comes back to 1000m after racing over 1200m at Caulfield where she seemingly had her chance and tried hard but the end of 1200m just found her out. Fresh legs and back to 1000m, she’s a definite improver.
Suggested Bet: Peyton to win.
Race 5. (13:20) Australian Heritage Cup 2800m
5 Jennivamoose (Bet Now: $6.00) looks a clear top seed if she has petrol left in the tank. She comes through the Moonee Valley Cup when off speed and kept chasing in a pretty good effort in defeat behind Juja Kibo. Think she is the best horse in the race and Zahra on, she will do me.
2 Athabascan (Bet Now: $12.00) did a really good job in the St Leger at Randwick, working home from off the pace behind the very much in form So You Are. Gate is tricky but with luck and cover, I think he’ll run very well.
11 Grand Pierro (Bet Now: $11.00) is on the quick back up from the Bendigo Cup on Wednesday where he seemingly had his chance but was far from disgraced in defeat behind So You Are. Trip is fine, maps to do no work, he is a sneaky chance.
7 Taramansour (Bet Now: $51.00) has been freshened up since the Ansett Classic at Mornington when down the track behind Hurry Curry. Tick over jumpout was solid, dare say has eyes on another race maybe, but he is a stayer and likes Flemington.
Suggested Bet: Jennivamoose to win.
Race 6. (13:55) Asahi Super Dry Plate (L) 1800m
Hoping we can get $3.5-$4+ for 4 Sabaj (Bet Now: $2.60). Either way, this is bet of the day for me, and clearly. For me, this has been a wasted prep. He should have gone down the Cups path but the stable kept him to shorter trips where he has been solid without threatening. FINALLY gets out in trip, massive drop in grade, Zahra, Flemington, hopefully edge off the track…surely he puts this field away.
5 St Lawrence (Bet Now: $6.00) is flying at present. He got a 12/10 from Callow to win the Murray Bridge Gold Cup last time, driving hard nearer the inside to finish best and score. Gets J Mac and hard to knock the way he’s racing at the moment.
1 Augustus (Bet Now: $26.00) is a very interesting runner. He was the hype horse in the Autumn but didn’t fire in the Australian Cup Prelude and was spelled. Been given a good break, just one officla jumpout…but I reckon his best is good enough to be very dangerous.
8 Immediacy (Bet Now: $26.00) was a total forgive from the Seymour Cup given he was nearer the inside and the inside lanes were quicksand so forgive and forget the run. Maps to get a suck run and if the inside is okay, he’s good enough to be a first four threat.
Suggested Bet: Keen on Sabaj.
Race 7. (15:00) Lexus Melbourne Cup (G1) 3200m
24 Shockletz (Bet Now: $10.00)…the more I look at this race, the more I think she’s an each way moral. I think Ciaron Maher has her absolutely humming at present and her run in the Tesio last Saturday to tick her over…gee it was a lovely piece of work. I am very confident she’ll run 3200m, she gets 51kg on her back, handles all conditions…I’ll be shocked if she isn’t in the finish. Just think she only runs well.
20 Point Of Law (Bet Now: $6.50) is the hype horse and understandably so given his Geelong Cup triumph. The way he won was that of a star. Pulled hard, keen on speed but put them away and was strong to the line in scoring. If he runs 3200m, I say he’s one of the hardest to beat. But, keep an eye on the mounting yard because he can be a bit not there mentally.
22 Mr Monaco (Bet Now: $23.00) won a pretty awful edition of the Bart Cummings I thought to secure his spot here. But, the win was no fluke because he ran super last Saturday in the Moonee Valley Cup behind Juja Kibo. Another where 3200m is no issue, down in the weights…only runs well.
15 Zahrann (Bet Now: $26.00) was a total forgive from the Caulfield Cup. To the eye, he was just fair late, but keep in mind he did get badly held up and lost momentum at a crucial stage. He was hard in the market there and does have the C Maher polish to say, he has to be respected.
Suggested Bet: Shockletz each way, Boxed Trifecta/First Four with Numbers 3, 4, 5, 11, 15, 20, 22, 24
Race 8. (15:50) Crown Amanda Elliott (L) 1400m
11 Autumn Lover (Bet Now: $23.00) is flying for Moody/Coleman. Real eye catcher in the Gothic a fortnight back, closing strongly from off speed when fifth to Milsons Point, clocking good late splits. Bigger track, will be within range, she’ll take holding out.
13 Mr Natural (Bet Now: $5.50) was massive at Geelong last time, working home very strongly against the pattern and race shape when second to Russian Choice. He should getting to Flemington and with a big rider upgrade, he is hard to beat.
5 Ranarsson (Bet Now: $2.35) is a nice horse and is a leading chance but he does seem short in early betting. He wasn’t helped by the riderless horse at Cranbourne last start but he spanked them, comfortably, and ran time. Good racing style, good test…he’ll run well, but seems short enough.
10 Obambulate (Bet Now: $81.00) was a total forgive from the Gothic at Caulfield, sitting wide no cover throughout and the hard run told late behind Milsons Point. If he can get a better run in transit, he’s a threat at a price.
Suggested Bet: Autumn Lover each way, something small on Mr Natural to win.
Race 9. (16:35) The Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes (G3) 1400m
3 Oh Too Good (Bet Now: $31.00) looks a massive price here. She resumed in the Tristarc where she was dragged back from the wide gate but her finale was more than sound in defeat behind Shadhavar. Has a gate to settle much closer in the run and be effective late. Insane price and a great each way speck.
2 Shadhavar (Bet Now: $3.50) had the pattern and race shape in her corner in the Tristarc but even allowing for that, she was impressive, won well and ran decent time. Good racing style, she’s one of the hardest to beat.
8 Terilee (Bet Now: $6.50) ran second to Shadhavar in the Tristarc and kept chasing from off speed in a pretty good effort in defeat. More genuine tempo here this time around and hard fit, she commands respect.
12 Butternut Princess (Bet Now: $14.00) was sneaky good in the Tristarc behind Shadhavar. She got back off speed and in a slowly run race, she was never a factor but I liked the way she kept chasing and finding the line in defeat. If she can be within range, she has the finale to launch.
Suggested Bet: Oh Too Good each way for me.
Race 10. (17:15) Channel 9 Trophy (Bm90) Hcp 1400m
12 Everain (Bet Now: $7.00) in the get out. Team Freedman trained gelding that resumed on Geelong Cup Day and I think you can make a case that with clear air, he wins instead of being an unlucky fourth to Immortal Star. Fitter and up in trip, he should only run well.
10 Man Of Worth (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be better for the first up run, which came at Randwick over 1400m. He had the suck run in behind and loomed large but first up, condition gave way. Fitter, kind map, he should run very well I say.
3 Porter (Bet Now: $10.00) has home track advantage and comes here off a win. That win came at Caulfield, landing on speed and credit to him, he was there to be beaten but he found under pressure to score. Good racing style, he’s around the mark.
4 Space Rider (Bet Now: $9.00) was game in defeat at Caulfield last time out behind Buccleuch, sitting on speed after doing work and just felt the pinch late. If that run hasn’t busted him, he’s one of the leading contenders.
Suggested Bet: Everain and Man Of Worth each way.
