Wow, what a day at Eagle Farm for punters and especially for trainer Peter Robl.
He saddled the rank outsider in the last race, ALISON OF TUFFY (Manhattan Rain-Flibbertigibbert) who was paying $126.
She was the last horse in the book at number 15 in the last race, the Listed $125,000 Just Now Quality over 1300m.
And she got the cash.
Perfectly, sensationally in fact, ridden by Ronnie Stewart she sat in 3rd spot to the bend, drafting off the leaders in the pouring rain, and when pulled out as they turned, she sprinted to the lead and held out a really, really good field of mares.
It was the massive longshot’s 28th start. She has won five times now and eight placings as well and won $240,000 in prizemoney – more importantly earned Black Type next to her name.
She held out a pack, only narrowly, but held out a pack chasing her down on the line which included MAOZI (Helmet-Wonderful Feeling) who flashed to grab 2nd, KRONE (Eurozone-Soft landing) who grabbed 3rd in front of Epic Girl and multimillionaire earner Exhilarates.
