WHEELHOUSE (Pierro-Sailing By) was resuming from a spell at the Kensington track this afternoon, and won.
But for his ownership group which includes controversial rugby league commentator and former State Of Origin coach, Phil Gould, the win was validation.
And was magnificent.
This horse is really good. He carried 60kg, more than any horse in the field.
He was last turning for home, at one stage 12 lengths off the leader, but weaved through the field, dashed clear to win by nearly three lengths and ran 1:22:80 on a soft track that was heavy yesterday!
Hugh Bowman rode him.
Watch: Wheelhouse produces the most impressive run of the day.
He was having just his fourth start and now has a win and 3 x 2nd placings to his name for $72,000 in stakes.
And he is going to earn more as he let everyone know he is going to be a player during the autumn carnival.
As a yearling he cost $600,000 and as a colt headed to stardom he could be worth ten times that in a few months.
