Do you come from a horse/racing family?
Yes, Mum and Dad have both had lifelong involvement in racing. Mum managed studs for many years and Dad is a very well-respected horseman who has been breaking in and training horses for decades. He trained some very good horses, but my favourite was Kats Clause, who won the Group 3 Mannerism Stakes. He also trained the horses who ran first and third across the line in the 1997 Group 3 St Leger at Flemington.
Did you always want to be a jockey?
No, I always wanted to train. I was convinced to ride at the age of 23 when I was naturally lightweight, so I decided to give it a go.
Who is your favourite horse and why?
Thespian Waters, one of the best horses I’ve trained and just a very special horse.
Who is the best horse you’ve ridden?
I can’t split The Inevitable and Geegees Blackflash.
And the best horse you have seen?
I feel very lucky to say both Black Caviar and Winx.
Your favourite racing moment?
Watching my fiancé Troy Baker win the 3YO Cup on Ms Tasmania — a really special moment and my biggest win as a trainer to date.
Your best ride?
Red Eclipse in the Group 3 Spring Stakes at Morphettville.
Best ride of another jockey you have seen?
Jamie Melham, Melbourne Cup.
Is there a ride you wish you could do again?
The Inevitable in the Australian Guineas.
Which horse currently racing would you love to be riding?
Aristopolos.
Which horse from the past would you love to have ridden?
Black Caviar — to experience that level of ability would be something pretty special.
Do you think horses know they have won?
Yes, absolutely.
If you could time travel into a past racing moment, what would it be?
Winning at Flemington on The Inevitable.
Who do you admire most in racing?
Anyone who puts their heart and soul into the game — it’s not an easy industry and takes a lot of dedication.
What is one change/improvement you’d love to see in racing?
Putting Tasmanian racing back onto Saturdays.
What is your pastime outside of racing?
Relaxing, enjoying a nice meal out or spending time with my family.
What is your favourite TV show?
Heartland.
Best concert you’ve seen?
I haven’t been to many, but Lee Kernaghan.

Show up, work hard and let the results do the talking.
