The George Main Stakes is a long standing Group 1 horse race held at Randwick Racecourse each year. This event stretches back to 1945, graduating from a Principal race to a Group 1 event in 1979. The George Main Stakes is a 1600 metre race that is open to horses of all ages and held under weight for age conditions.

Along with prize money of $350,000, the winner of the George Main Stakes is exempt from ballot for the Epsom Handicap that takes place one week later. A number of other races are run on the same day as the George Main Stakes, including the Group 2 The Shorts for sprinters and the Group 3 Gloaming Stakes for 3 year olds.
The George Main Stakes is named after George Main, a former chairman of the Australian Jockey Club. Initially run over a distance of 8 furlongs, this race became a 1600 metre event in 1972 and has remained that way ever since. A number of well known horses have taken out this event over the years, with Modulation winning the inaugural race in 1945.
Some of the most high profile winners of the George Main Stakes include Kingston Town in 1981 and 1982, Emancipation in 1983, Shogun Lodge in 1997, Lonhro in 2003, and Grand Armee in 2004. A number of horses have also managed to win multiple races, such as Shannon in 1946-47, Count Radiant in 1964-65, and Regal Rhythm in 1967-68.
The 2011 edition of the George Main Stakes was won by Sincero, who won the race despite a bad start from an outside barrier. Sincero ran down Ilovethiscity on the home straight, with Triple Elegance taking out third place.
