Since the field was confirmed on Tuesday morning, Young Werther has drifted as favourite from $3 to $4 at TAB to win Saturday’s Victoria Derby at Flemington on the opening day of the 2020 Melbourne Cup Carnival.
The Danny O’Brien-trained gelding enters the Victoria Derby at his third race start after being scratched from last Saturday’s Drummond Golf Vase at The Valley due to the wet conditions.
Cherry Tortoni was the winner of the Drummond Golf Vase and has tightened from $6 to $4.20 since Tuesday to challenge Young Werther for TAB favouritism in the Victoria Derby.
Albarado – victorious in the Caulfield Classic on October 17 – and Hit The Shot – third to Albarado in the Caulfield Classic – have firmed from $8 to $7.
Despite finishing second to Albarado in the Caulfield Classic, Let’s Karaka Deel has eased with TAB from $7 to $10 since Tuesday.
Redwood Shadow was fourth in the Caulfield Classic and has drifted from $11 to $13.
One TAB punter is hoping that Young Werther can deliver a $42,000 payday after placing a $2000 bet at $21 on September 6 minutes after Young Werther won on debut over 1500 metres at Geelong.
Two roughies in the Victoria Derby field have received interest at big prices.
One bet of $500 at $151 has been placed on last start Wodonga maiden winner Born To Succeed for a potential $75,500 collect.
A $450 each-way wager at $101 the win and $23.22 the place has been bet on Kenzan, which could result in a $55,899 collect.
