Adam Page has cast his eye over the latest trials and jumpouts across New South Wales and Victoria for the past couple of weeks. See his top triallers and analysis from recent heats.
Mornington Wednesday January 7
Heat 5 – 3YO 900m (54.35)
Thalestris didn’t do much on debut but has been given a good break, this is the second jumpout and looks ready to rock and roll. Sat on speed here before being clicked up and moved well late to win well. Reckon he can win a maiden first up with the right placement.
Tamworth Thursday January 8
Heat 10 – Open 950m (54.35)
I reckon Cam Crockett would love to get Blend Of Three to the Country Championships. He is a good horse, very progressive. Yet to race this prep, this was his first trial but he looked to jog when fourth, seemingly with plenty in hand. Keen to see where he progresses and heads.
Beaumont Newcastle Thursday January 8
Heat 3 – Open 1000m (1.00.49)
Oh my this trial from Totoka was very good. Back near last on the fence, she got clear, got to the outside and she savaged the line under no real pressure. Bit surprising because she isn’t usually a star trialler but she looks to be humming and I reckon could be one for Paul Perry with an eye on the Provincial-Midway Championships. She’s humming.
Heat 6 – Maiden 1000m (1.00.12)
Sneaky good trial from Shakespeare’s Girl for Team Archibald. She got back to last in the trial and was under a hold throughout under Mollie Fitzgerald. Beaten just under ten lengths but moved really nicely I thought. She’d be hard to beat in a Country maiden.
Cranbourne Monday January 12
Heat 13 – 3YO 1000m (59.40)
Loved the way Exit went about her work here. Sat near the speed and was under an absolute hold by Brown. Narrowly beaten but could have won by a space if given a squeeze. She’s in for a super prep I feel.
Randwick-Kensington Thursday January 15
Heat 4 – Open 1200m (1.14.73)
Sam Hawkens was formerly with William Haggas but is now with O’Shea/Charlton and looks primed for a Sydney Cup assault. He is a horse that races best when having a bunny to chase and I loved the way he let down from off speed. He’s in for a really good prep.
Werribee Friday January 16
Heat 6 – Open 800m (48.63)
I think Romantic Encounter could be in play as a knockout in the Australian Guineas. Led throughout to win this jumpout and he went like a rocket I thought, safely holding the well performed Oak Hill and did it with something in hand.
