A strong field has been assembled for the Stawell Cup (2000m) this Sunday, with the depth looking quite strong.

1. Immediacy: SCR
2. Basilinna: SCR
3. Schabau: SCR
4. Hasta La War: He’s the throw at the stumps. Hasn’t raced since the Adelaide Cup but he has failed to fire a shot all prep. His better days…are they behind him? Maybe. But, his best is clearly good enough to take this out and you’re getting a price.
5. Sunsets: I think he’s the best horse in the race. Just a matter of where he is at after two runs back from a spell where he has been fair without jumping up and down. He is going through to the keeper.
6. Dublin Journal: Very plain return at Caulfield and want to see more before entertaining him as a threat.
7. Khoekhoe: Cardiac Arrhythmia last time so a clear forgive. Prior efforts suggested he was nearing something positive. Watch betting.
8. Precious Charm: She got front end control in the Edenhope Cup and gave nothing else a look in. More depth here, but will press forward, likely lead and take running down.
9. Fortune: Tried his guts out at Caulfield last Saturday but just couldn’t quite get there. Racing well, should be around the mark. But I have others ahead of him.
10. Hasta La Fiorente: Tried to make a sustained run in the Mount Gambier Cup but was found wanting late. Not sure he is one I can entertain.
11. Wisaka: Plain return at Donald and is eligible for much easier. Pass.
12. Dartboard: Got a 12/10 ride to win at Swan Hill last time, albeit in easier grade. Can’t have him here.
13. Last Raider: First up here…would be some training effort. Happy to watch.
14. Unamerican: Making up the numbers.
15. Le Zebra (First Emergency): He is a class factor of the field but just not sure what upside there is left given he was plain and looked a tired horse in the Easter Cup at Caulfield. If he wins, I am losing on the race.

Precious Charm led throughout to win at Edenhope last time and I think will press forward once again. Khoekhoe and Fortune should be ridden with intent from wide gates. Wisaka and Sunsets won’t be far away.
