Melody Belle heads the early betting for the Australian Cup
The Australian Cup (2000m) has somewhat lost its spark and class in recent years, but if the Sportsbet all in market was final field, it would shape up to be a beauty.
As it stands, favourite is star mare Melody Belle at $7, who last raced at the same track/distance when enormous in defeat behind Magic Wand. Three year old colt Castelvecchio is at $9 but dare say is unlikely to head down that path. Avilius, who was odds on in the race last year, is an $11 chance alongside high quality three year old filly Funstar, who interestingly has firmed in from $11.
Star WA middle distance horse Regal Power opened $41 but is now into $15, with the four year old all but confirmed to prep in Melbourne for the Autumn.
