The Rosehill Guineas (2000m) this Saturday looks a race that centres around one key runner, with Observer bringing the standout form and class into the contest. While there is a mix of progressive types and staying prospects engaged, this shapes as a race where the best horse on exposed form is clearly defined.
Observer has done everything right this preparation and profiles as the one to beat, but the rise to 2000m does bring others into play. Green Spaces looks suited stepping up in trip and getting closer to peak fitness, while Victorious Spirit and Federalist add some intrigue as horses looking to improve over the distance. With several runners potentially using this as a stepping stone to bigger targets, it sets up as a race where class should prevail, but there is still depth around the minor placings.
Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2026 Rosehill Guineas.
2026 Rosehill Guineas Runner Preview:
1. Observer: When in doubt, just go with the class, and the class here is clearly Observer. Dominant/arrogant first up win in the Autumn Stakes before going to the Australian Guineas where he got an all time ride by Brown and class kicked in when it mattered to score. He is the class runner, will press forward and take a power of beating.
2. Autumn Boy: The blinkers are still not back on for Autumn Boy, telling me the Grand Final is two weeks time, the Doncaster, more so than this race. He tried hard in the Randwick Guineas but was simply no match for Sheza Alibi. IMO, I am not sure he runs 2000m but has class as well.
3. Deal Done Fast: Really liked the way he closed off in the Autumn Classic, although that race, I think was awful. For me, he would be more suited to Adelaide, but this Derby in Sydney is thinning right out, so he might be in the mix.
4. Green Spaces: Green Spaces should love the rise to 2000m. He’s just found them too sharp in both runs back but loved the way he kept chasing in the Randwick Guineas behind Sheza Alibi. Getting towards peak fitness and rising to a more suitable trip, he’s very dangerous.
5. Victorious Spirit: Really liked the way he kept chasing in the Australian Guineas and gives off every indication of appreciating 2000m. One for exotics.
6. Federalist: Still a maiden but his finale last Saturday in the Phar Lap was very good. He’s come back very well and is on track for the Derby. Just whether he’s sharp enough for this.
7. One Step Closer: He’s making up the numbers.
8. Bingi: Wasn’t bad in the Australian Guineas but I have others ahead of him.
9. Are You Kidding: SCR

2026 Rosehill Guineas Speed Map
I think Observer will lead for fun. Are You Kidding likely sits outside, with Autumn Boy potentially landing box seat, maybe 1/1. Federalist could hold a spot from the inside gate if given a dig in the ribs. Can’t see much early pressure overall.
