1. NEVER FORGET – (11)
She has had three runs back this time in, all at G3 level but yet to worry the judge in any of them. Thought she had every opportunity last start in the Schweppes Trophy (1600m) at Flemington but she was disappointing late, and finished eighth behind Bonaria. Couldn’t have her here on that effort.
Odds: $21.00
2. CRAFTY IRNA – S Clipperton (2)
A super honest mare who gave Thy five kilos last start, when she was second up in the Listed Aspiration Quality, and just couldn’t run Thy down late, finishing second by a head. Meets Thy much better at the weights, is third up (ran second to Stout Hearted in the G3 Kingston Town Stakes third up last prep) and drawn beautifully. She’ll be hard to beat.
Odds: $4.00
3. FIBRILLATION – B Avdulla (7)
She beat Crafty Irna to win this race last year and goes into this year’s edition with two runs under her belt. The first being a poor effort in a BM 95 before chasing home the in-form Bello, here at Rosehill on a heavy track three weeks ago. Goes well here and for Avdulla and any sting out of the ground would be a bonus.
Odds: $6.00
4. THY – L Nolen (4)
Didn’t have a great deal of room when resuming off a seven month spell in the G3 Tressaday Stakes at Flemington where she finished 1.4 lengths behind Tavarnelle. Peter Moody then travelled her to Warwick Farm for the Listed Aspiration Quality where she led and showed great fight when challenged late to score by a head. That race has always been a good pointer for here but she does jump 2.5kgs.
Odds: $6.50
5. ALIYANA TILDE – C Brown (9)
Only the two wins from sixteen starts but she’s better than that. The Snitzel mare has been placed twice in G1 company previously and when second up in the Aspiration Quality last start, rocketed home for third behind Thy. Last time she got to this distance range was when she placed in those G1 events and expecting her to be charging home late.
Odds: $5.50
6. SHAMARDANI – T Berry (5)
Greg Hickman’s Shamardal mare ran third behind Cathay Lady and Babel in the Listed Belle of the Turf at Gosford four starts back and at her most recent outing, was doing her best work last when less then two lengths behind Thy in the Aspiration Quality. Think the step up to 1900m should suit and Berry should be able to cover her up from five. Genuine each-way chance.
Odds: $12.00
7. SINDARIN – (13)
Had every chance in the run when she chased down Blurred Vision to score at Canterbury in a BM 75 before running third to Marden in a BM 85 on a slow track over 2200m at Warwick Farm. She then lined up in the Listed Canberra Cup and finished a length third behind Court Connection and Coliseo (since very good in the Albury Cup). On the improve this time but the draw here is cause for concern, especially from the 1900m start.
Odds: $9.50
8. DOLLY DOLLY – J McDonald (14)
Queensland galloper who commenced this campaign, almost twelve months ago now! During that time she’s had nineteen starts for four wins including her most recent outing on the Gold Coast which she won by a convincing 3 ¾ lengths. Despite that win, this is a big jump in grade that is not made any easier having drawn the ‘visitor’s gate’.
Odds: $19.00
9. EPINGLE – C Williams (6)
She closed well when resuming from a lengthy spell to claim third in a RST 82 event at Flemington behind Perfectly Stunning and Ominous Quality. The Mick Kent trained 5yo then backed that up with a good finishing effort behind Bonaria and Spirit Song (since won at Moonee Valley) in the G3 Schweppes Trophy. This trip third up looks ideal.
Odds: $8.00
10. NATCH CATCH – J Penza (8)
Nick Olive from Canberra trains this 6yo mare and she’s coming off a ninth placing in the Canberra Cup behind Court Connection. That was her first attempt at a black type race and she acquitted herself fairly finishing five lengths from the winner however, can’t see her winning here.
Odds: $67.00
11. SABLES – (3)
Darley’s second runner after Sindarin, with this mare being by Elusive Quality. She got a mile back when first up from a spell and never figured in a BM 80 at Warwick Farm (1400m) in January before, at her next start a fortnight ago, she was ridden in a more forward spot but weakened late to run second to last in the Aspiration Quality. That was her first run for seven weeks so can expect some improvement but not enough to see her winning here.
Odds: $41.00
12. OMINOUS QUALITY – Scratched
13. BOLD SARI – P Robl (1)
Al Maher mare from Anthony Cummings’ stable who is only picking her way through the grades around the mid-week and provincial meetings. Surprised to see her entered here.
Odds: $101.00
14. OUR GIRL CHARLIZE – C Newitt (10)
This Stratum mare can produce a finish but, her last win was some thirteen starts back and her efforts since have been fair at best in races of much lesser quality than this one.
Odds: $126.00
OVERVIEW
As are most of the races on today’s card, this is a very tough and open event. Think Crafty Irna might just be able to go one better than last year and claim the win. She was great second up under 59kgs and gets to a distance and weight that will have her right amongst the finish. Been a while by Aliyana Tilde gets to a distance that she’ll appreciate and she indicated last start, that after an average Spring, she could very well be back to the form that saw her place at the elite level. One I am keen on at eachway value is Epingle. Her two runs back have been top notch. There’s winning form around here and the step up to 1900m is ideal. At $11.00 in early markets, I think she represents very good value.
