The fairer sex’s turn and a field of ten lines up and amazingly, seven of them come into this race having won their debuts. Only two are commencing their careers, both for local trainer Mick Price who has produced a handy filly or two in recent years and close attention should be paid to both. This shapes up as a very good race.

1. DIAMOND GLOW – V Duric (2)
She was sent out a 6/4 favourite on debut and after settling mid-field, knuckled down to her task well late to record a comfortable 1 ¾ length win, here at Caulfield over Self Sense three weeks back. Being by sire Bel Esprit and being trained by Peter Moody makes for a winning combination.

2. BULBULA – C Schofield (7)
Trained by David Hayes, this daughter of Shamardal won the Listed Merson Cooper Stakes on debut back in mid November, leading all the way and accounting for Purrific who recently finished eighth of twelve in the G3 Brian McLachlan Stakes in QLD. Nice freshen up into this and from seven, should have the speed to cross and be in a prominent spot.

3. SWING VOTE – C Williams (9)
Gai Waterhouse runner who recorded a comfortable 1 ¼ length win at Warwick Farm earlier this month defeating Twilight Royale. She is the first foal for her mare, Swing Dance and is by freshman sire Northern Meteor and showed more than enough on her debut to be considered here. First look at Caulfield and the wide draw are the concerns.

4. MONTSEGUR – K McEvoy (1)
She was very impressive scoring on debut by 3 ¼ lengths at Caulfield on Boxing Day, defeating Calcutta (who ran second to last in the Magic Millions recently). By sire New Approach out of a mare called Chatoyant, who is a half sister to the smart performer Legally Bay, dam of Jolie Bay. She has a lot going for her.

5. MIRACLES OF LIFE – Ms L Stojakov
She has made quite the impression at her two starts in Adelaide, winning on debut by 5 ½ and bettering that at her next start, scoring by 9! Trained by Daniel Clarken out of Morphetville, the filly is by Not A Single Doubt and the first foal out of unraced More Than Ready mare, Dazzling Gazelle. Can’t ignore her efforts to date and must go in.

6. MOUNT ZERO – N Hall (4)
Made her debut at Flemington, just prior to Christmas and finished second (beaten 2 lengths) behind Safeguard before claiming a close up third (beaten a neck) to Ms Funovits and Thermal Current (in the Colts and Gelding division). Gets a nice run from four and a good form line can be drawn by the efforts of Thermal Current who will be in the previous race.

7. DONNA MADEIRA – R McLeod (10)
Drifted from 12 to 20/1 on debut but defied the betting to lead all the way and register a 1 ¾ length win in a Restricted race at Sandown Hillside a week and a half ago. Can’t ignore that win but will have to lift again this class and hasn’t drawn favourably.

8. MYSTICAL MISS – L Nolen (8)
More Than Ready filly who sat just off the speed on debut before extending well late to secure a 1 ¾ length win in a Ballarat Maiden (1000m) Her dam, Magical Miss was a very good race mare and wouldn’t be at all surprise to see her be finishing hard late.

9. KERR – C Newitt (3)
She is one of two debutants for Mick Price, this filly being by Golden Slipper winner Stratum out of Malagra Miss. Her full sister Misstrum has recorded two wins from eight starts in New Zealand, both Listed events.

10. TANGO’S DAUGHTER – G Boss (5)
By Redoute’s Choice out of an Anabaa mare, Tango Fire who, like her stable-mate above, is making her debut and has not been seen at any official trials.

OVERVIEW
Couldn’t asked for any more from most of these fillies on debut but I believe the pick of them may have been Montsegur ($3.80). She’ll make use of his inside gate and be setting or be on the speed, throughout. Hard not to include Miracles of Life ($3.20) after winning by a combined 14.5 lengths in two starts thus far and should be within striking distance from gate six. Shopping for value and Diamond Glow – who appears to have plenty of raw ability and the first starter Kerr, both should be seriously considered.
