The Tattersalls Club Raceday at Eagle Farm on Saturday contains two Black Type races, the first of which sees a field of nine mares line up for a shot at the Travel Associate Classic. Early favourite in a race with several genuine chances is Sydney visitor – Bound To Blush who will have the services of Queensland’s leading hoop, Chris Munce.

1. FUNTANTES – D Browne (8)
The first of two runners in the race for Qld’s premier Trainer Rob Heathcote, this 6yo by Easy Rocking kicked off this campaign by registering her seventh career win by leading all the way at Doomben to score by 2 ¾ over Morning Captain. The tables were turned on her though, albeit just, last start when Morning Captain bettered her by a half a length in an Open Class event. Likes to lead but so do others in the race and she’s drawn second to widest.
2. GAI’S CHOICE – P Robl (2)
She was in brilliant form during the Winter of this year and strung together three wins including the Listed Gai Waterhouse (1350m) on Ipswich Cup Day. Had a let up before contesting in some smart races recently over the Spring with her latest effort being a seventh of sixteen (beaten 5.2) in the G3 Herald Sun Stakes behind Koonoomoo at Flemington. Second (Cabernet) and third (Mid Summer Music) in that race, have subsequently won and can envisage that she gets a nice run behind the speed.
3. RISK AVERSION – G Colless (3)
Well bred mare who is a half sister to Group winning Shania Dane and Scintillation – a dual Group 1 winner in Hong Kong. She tackles this race first up but last prep did take out the Listed Juanmo Stakes, defeating Funtantes and posted a good fifth behind Wealth Princess in the G3 Glenlogan Park (1350m). She gets back and will need the pace on but with two recent barrier trials under her belt, should be wound up to produce a finish.
4. FIRE UP FIFI – R Wiggins (1)
The second of the Heathcote runners who was in fantastic form last preparation, winning five of her seven starts and graduating from Class Three company to Open Class. She’s picked a slick race to kick off this campaign and her form suggests her best will be over longer trips than this but will be no doubt be doing her best work late.
5. BOUND TO BLUSH – C Munce (9)
Lightly raced 4yo mare from John O’Shea’s Sydney stable who kicked off this campaign after an eighteen week spell, with an impressive 1 ¼ length win at Rosehill four weeks back. She’s been kept up to the mark with a comfortable barrier trial win on the 19th November. She beat home Hallowell Belle last time in when finishing second in the Listed Jame B Carr (1400m) and has obvious ability and the service of Munce have been secured. Only drawback is the “visitors draw”.
6. CUDDLESOME – (5)
Canny Lad mare who broke her maiden status at her fourth start and has since won three of her next five. She’s progressed through her grades at a rapid rate but this is a significant step up again and she’ll find this harder than her last start third to Golden Trinkets in a Fillies and Mares Open Handicap.
7. GOLDEN TRINKETS – R Myers (4)
She was last as the field in the Fillies and Mares Open event turned for home at her most recent start but was able to secure a beautiful rails run and relished the soft ground to record a 3 ¼ win. That was her fifth career win from eighteen starts and clearly her best to date so there’s no better time for connections have a dip at a Black Type race however, will find this tough.
8. DREAM’N’IGNITE – M Cahill (6)
Originally from the Rockhampton region and the Monashee Mountain mare has taken to the city lifestyle in great style, winning her last three starts including a dominate 2 ¼ length win in a F&M Class 6 at her most recent start. Races up on the pace but, unlike her most recent starts, will have a lot of quality opposition to keep her company.
9. JESTER’S GIRL – P Hammersley (7)
Despite her record showing one win from nine starts, her form reads better than that on closer inspection. Last preparation she fourth behind Embark and Onecatstoomany and was close up behind Arinosa. Her trainer Gerald Ryan has raced the 4yo sparingly and tackles this race first up but with no trials for punters to go on. It should pay to keep a close watch on.
Despite the wide gate and others in the race also keen to take up a forward position Bound To Blush has an abundance of ability and the early quote of $2.50 should be considered. Gai’s Choice comes out of what is shaping up to be a very strong form race and she obviously enjoys racing in Queensland. The $11.00 on offer about her appeals each-way. Can picture her getting a nice run from two behind what should be a solid pace and interesting to note that her Jockey, Sydney based Peter Robl, has made the trip with her. Look for Risk Aversion ($5.50) to be finishing hard and keeping her impressive record at this track/distance intact.
