1. ALL TOO HARD
The half brother to champion mare Black Caviar returns to racing after running second to 2yo Triple Crown winner Pierro in the Group 1 AJC Sire Produce Stakes (1400m) in April.Prior to that, the Casino Prince colt had registered three impressive victories from as many starts including the Group Two VRC Sire Produce and Pago Pago Stakes. All Too Hard went to the line with Snitzerland in a barrier trial on the 3rd August.
Odds: $1.85
2. DRIEFONTEIN
The Fastnet Rock filly has won four of six starts to date including the Magic Millions Classic, Listed Widden Stakes and Group Three Bruce McLachlan Classic.Tommy Berry has been on board on every one of her starts and was the pilot when she ran second in her barrier trial on the 30 July.
Odds: $5.00
3. SNITZERLAND
Ran second in the Golden Slipper at 25/1 at her most recent start in April beaten less than half a length. The took her record to two wins (including the Group 3 Breeders Stakes) and two placings from her five career starts. She’s been prepared for her return with a barrier trial, edging out All Too Hard on the 3rd August.
Odds: $2.70
4. NINTH LEGION
Well bred Fastnet Rock colt from the Anthony Cummings yard who won a Canterbury Maiden on debut (23rd May) at 161/.Proved it was no fluke at his very next start by jumping to Open Company at Warwick Farm (1400m) and finishing well to record long neck victory. He was then taken to QLD for a tilt at the Group One TJ Smith (1600m) where he ran fifth (beaten 2.5 lenghts) being Sizzling.Has his fair share of ability but might just find a couple of these too slick over the 1100m.
Odds: $21.00
5. DON’T BLINK
Redoute’s Choice filly for John O’Shea who won a Canterbury Maiden on Heavy (field of four) when debuting in November of last year, before being immediately spelled.Returned three weeks back at Warwick Farm and went forward before folding late and finishing well down the track behind the very promising She’s A Fox.
Odds: $67.00
6. MATAVAI
Has had two starts, both at Wyong and both in Maiden class. Justified her big price on both occasions finishing well down for a seventh (beaten 14.3 on Heavy) and fourth (beaten 2.6).Aiming way too high here.
Odds: $501.00
OVERVIEW
The fillies Driefontein (barrier five) and Snitzerland (barrier six) should push forward and share the lead. When markets opened, didn’t expect such a differential as there was between the top three in betting. All Too Hard opened $1.60 and has eased to $1.80 whilst the $6.00 initially offered about Driefontein was quickly taken and she has trimmed to $5.00. Snitzerland solid at $2.70.Driefontein will give a good account of her self and the other two leading chances something to catch. All Too Hard is nominated for the Guineas and Cox Plate and that makes you wonder just how wound up he will be at the 1100m – especially when asked to take the odds on.The abovementioned three look to have the race between themselves.
