Phelan Ready Stakes Form Guide
1. LONDEHERO – G Colless (3)
A Lonhro colt out of Centaine mare Fluer de Chine trained by Matthew Dunn, making him a half brother to Group 1 winner Tully Thunder, stable-mate Congo (one win from seven starts) and six other winners including Fluer De’here (Group placed in NZ). His one start was a pleasing effort, closing well for a half length second to Sister Magic who is unbeaten in two starts. Drawn well and rates highly.
Odds: $2.25
2. ELIMINATOR – J Lloyd (8)
Bolted in when making his debut on the Gold Coast early November, winning by 8 ¼ lengths! The horse he beat that day, Craiglea Seal has been well beaten in two subsequent starts at Toowoomba and Rockhampton but nevertheless, it was an impressive performance. The son of Choisir is trained by Gillian Heinrich, who won the Magic Millions with Military Rose in 2010.
Odds: $3.20
3. EL TORANADO – J Byrne (4)
He draw gate twelve of thirteen when making his debut and got back before finishing well to run fourth, beaten 3 ¼ lengths behind Sister Magic and Londehero. The son of Encosta de Lago, who cost connections $150,000.00 to purchase, will be better for that experience and from a handy draw, can figure in the finish.
Odds: $7.50
4. TELEGRAM – T Harrison (2)
Son of Fastnet Rock trained by Ross Balcombe who made his debut as 4/5 on favourite at Lismore but failed to live up to the expectations put on him and finished fourth of five, beaten near on four lengths. He’ll have to improve significantly on that run to be figuring in the finish of this race.
Odds: $67.00
5. ALDOUS – M Cahill (7)
The first of five debutants in the race this colt races in the Patinack Farm pink set of silks and is raced by members of the Tinkler family. By Redoute’s Choice out of Fusaichi Pegasus mare, he’s had two public trails finishing second (beaten nine lengths) in the first behind El Toranado and sixth of eight behind Missy Longstocking in the latest. Can’t include on what we’ve seen at the trials.
Odds: $51.00
6. ALWAYS A GIBBERER – D Browne (9)
This bloke is by Casino Prince, raced by Patinack Farm and will be in the first set of their racing silks. He is a half relation to Gibberer (by Rahy) who has won three from thirteen, also raced by Patinack. Awkward draw won’t make it easy for him and he runs into some smart ones on his debut.
Odds: $41.00
7. AQUATOR – P Hammersley (6)
Third runner making his debut and hasn’t been seen at any official trials. He is by Danasigna out of Cape Cross mare, Equatorial which makes him a half relation to NSW country galloper Malabo, who has won four of eleven starts. Betting this best guide.
Odds: $17.00
8. SIR LUMINAR – C Munce (1)
From the Toowoomba stables of Mick Nolan, this colt is by Choisir out of Illuminar. His dam was a handy sprinting mare who won six starts, including three wins in town. Has had one trial in preparation for this and he was a comfortable 5 ¼ length winner. Respect the stable’s decision to have a crack at a race of this quality with him first up.
Odds: $5.50
9. SIR MOMENT – R Wiggins (5)
Yet another first starter by Choisir but this colt coming from the Steve O’Dea yard. His Dam is Colourful Moments who is by Zabeel and she was trained by Gai Waterhouse who produced her to win twice from seven starts. She’s only produced one other to race, a filly by Rock Of Gilbratar who only started once. Not seen in any public trials.
Odds: $4.60
10. IN THE SKY ROCKET – (11)
This colt has had three starts thus far for the Maund stables from Toowoomba. He ran fourth (beaten 1.9 lengths) behind Real Surreal before settling on the pace last start, only to weaken late and run sixth (beaten six lengths) behind Sister Magic and Londehero. Has drawn the widest and will find this tough.
Odds: $41.00
11. VALHALLA MIST – A Spinks (10).
Can’t consider him a chance on his debut effort where he finished sixth of ten, beaten 8.5 lengths behind Real Surreal three weeks back. Drawn wide and will be a big price.
Odds: $101.00
SUMMARY
Whilst the form from the race is questionable, Eliminator did brain them on debut and despite that run being well over a month ago now, will have been kept up to the mark by his trainer who knows how to prepare a Magic Millions winner. Londehero is the other leading chance. He was very good on debut behind the unbeaten Sister Magic and will not have to improve much to be prominent here, especially from his favourably draw. Sir Luminar the best of those making their debuts.
