2022 Queen Elizabeth Stakes Speed Map
As is the case nearly always with 2000m+ races in Australia, there is no early speed. With that, Zaaki should get a comfortable lead. Dalasan sat handy in the race last year while Mount Popa has sat on speed previously. Anamoe could press forward if he jumps clean.
2022 Queen Elizabeth Stakes Runner Preview
1. Think It Over: He’s a warrior who has been so well placed. But I think this prep has proved that he isn’t quite up to the A graders. So that, as well as a likely Heavy 10, will see him struggle.
Odds: $34.00
2. Zaaki: Zaaki is a star. Not 100% sold on him back on genuine wet ground but he brings upside and the A1 form given he bolted up in the All Star Mile, with that form standing up big time in the Doncaster with 1-2-3 using the ASM as their last start form reference. Hard fit at 2000m looks ideal. Just hope he can handle the bog.
Odds: $5.50
3. I’m Thunderstruck: Mick Price said on Saturday afternoon after the Doncaster that this horse would spell. He’s here so he must have bounced off the run, where he was enormous. If this was a set track, he’d be a serious winning threat. Just don’t think the bottomless will suit but at least the stable will get a guide to his Cox Plate credentials.
Odds: $13.00
4. Mount Popa: Flattered last time. He found his ideal conditions, was given a peach and ghe runner up was unlucky. He’s not up to this level.
Odds: $41.00
5. Dalasan: Beauty who loves the Randwick mile. Ran very well in the Doncaster. Just not sure the Heavy 10 track will be his go, as well as 2000m.
Odds: $67.00
6. Verry Elleegant: Verry Elleegant is a champion, an all time great and given she likely heads overseas after this, this could her Australian farewell. On face value, I thought she was quite plain in the Ranvet and for the first time in a long time, it looked like she gave up. But, that was said about Nature Strip and then come the Grand Final, he spanked them. This girl could well spank them with conditions to suit.
Odds: $3.20
7. Duais: Duais…usually if it’s too good to be true, it usually is. I thought she was an absolute moral in the Sydney Cup but goes here and brings outstanding form after dominant wins in the Australian Cup and Tancred. Back to 2000m no issue and she’ll be strong at the end.
Odds: $7.00
8. Montefilia: Montefilia is flying this time in. Good in defeat fresh in the Chipping Norton behind Verry Elleegant. She then turned the tables on her in spades when taking out the Ranvet, making a mess of the champion mare. Could have run in the Tancred but has been kept on ice for this and then have eyes on the Melbourne Cup. Key chance.
Odds: $7.50
9. Anamoe: He’s the unknown. He ran so well in the Cox Plate but had a significant weight pull. Bolted up in the Rosehill Guineas, but he beat up nothing and the time was much slower than the Ranvet. I think he’s a massive risk.
Odds: $4.40
