Punters were quick out of the gates to back a runner at double figure odds to win Saturday’s Cox Plate.
The Cox Plate field was announced this morning and it did not take long for punters to back a runner who was a borderline chance to make it into the race.
Three-year-old Castelvecchio was given the last spot in the race and with 49.5kg on the horses back and punters have crunched his odds from his opening price of $17 into his current quote of $7.50 which sees him as the third favourite in betting.
Castelvecchio will be out to try and emulate So You Think and Shamus Award by winning the Cox Plate as a three year old and the money suggests he is a very good chance of doing so.
Japanese mare Lys Gracieux holds outright favouritism at $3.60 ahead of Mystic Journey at $7.00.
