One TAB punter believes that Avilius will secure his second Group 1 triumph in as many weeks when the Godolphin-owned gelding contests tomorrow’s Tancred Stakes at Rosehill Gardens.
The TAB customer in question has plonked $130,000 at $1.65 on the Ranvet Stakes winner – who is currently $1.60 favourite with TAB – and is looking at a potential profit of $84,500.
“After failing to run a place as an odds-on favourite in the TAB Australian Cup at Flemington on March 9, Avilius was considered one of the chances heading into last Saturday’s Ranvet Stakes at Rosehill,” TAB’s Trent Langskaill said.
“Avilius returned to the form that saw him salute in the Carlyon Cup and Peter Young Stakes at Caulfield last month and the customer in question is hoping the James Cummings-trained five-year-old wins at Group 1 level once again.”
Before the $130,000 wager at $1.65, Avilius accounted for 54 percent of the win hold, but that figure has increased to 87 percent due to the enormity of the bet placed.
