Randwick- Monday, August 10, Weather Fine, Track Soft 5.
Heat One- Cosmic Endeavour (1st) and Arabian Gold (4th):
Classy mares who both looked in outstanding. Cosmic Endeavour hugged the inside all the way and took the lead about 150m to go and scored a comfortable win under little pressure while Arabian Gold is really loving life under Gai it would seem. She sat off speed, peeled wide and let down beautifully under no pressure from Josh Parr. She looks set for a big Spring.
Heat Two- Mesa (2nd):
In a trial that contained the Cox Plate favourite and a couple of other Group l performers, it was a three year old maiden that looked outstanding, and it was Mesa, who sat outside speedster Flamboyant Lass all the way and that filly was under enormous pressure whereas Huet had Mesa under a really good hold throughout and bolted to the line. Highly impressive.
Heat Three- Hartnell (2nd):
The best I can find is $17 on offer for this horse to win the Melbourne Cup. If you want an early flutter for the race that stops a nation, this is the horse. This was just all class from the BMW winner. He sat back in the run before peeling the widest on the home turn and under James McDonald, he just ambled to the line but made up significant ground under a big grip. Fiorente produced a similar trial at Randwick around this time in 2013…few months later he won the Melbounre Cup, and at the moment, I am tipping Hartnell to do the same.
