RACE ONE

Markievicz upset the big go on Golden Gorge in the TAB Highway Plate (1500 metres).

The Barry Ratcliff-trained galloper hovered around the $17 mark for most of the betting and was a bit too strong at the finish.

Golden Gorge ($9-$5.50), which had opened at $15 on Wednesday, was the subject of a strong go on the day and nearly pulled off some nice bets.

Kings Trust ($3.90-$4.80) went around as the most popular runner despite getting out slightly in the market.

RACE TWO

Best Of Bordeaux landed a long range move when leading throughout in the Fujitsu General Canonbury Stakes (1100 metres).

The Kacy Fogden-trained colt went $11-$6.50 on the day and never looked in danger of defeat. Early shoppers nabbed as much as $15 when markets opened on Wednesday.

Rakomelo ($9.50-$6.50) and Flashing Steel ($6.50-$5.50) filled the minors in front of the disappointing race favourite.

Great Barrier Reef ($1.35-$1.90) drifted significantly despite attracting big money throughout the afternoon. In fact, the son of I Am Invincible held well over half the total investment on the race.

BETS: Best Of Bordeaux $1,000 @ $6.50

BETS: Great Barrier Reef $8,000 @ $1.90

RACE THREE

Punters were sent packing after the heavily tried favourite was unplaced in the Widden Stakes (1100 metres).

Ebhaar ($2.40-$1.95-$2) went around as one of the most popular gallopers all day, commanding 64 percent of the money here. The daughter of I Am Invincible over-raced throughout and failed to run a drum.

In contrast, Queen Of The Ball ($8.50-$17-$16) defied a big betting drift to lead throughout and win comfortably for Team Freedman.

Revolutionary Miss ($13-$9.50-$11) and Pantornario ($12-$8.50) filled the minors.

BETS: Ebhaar $3,000 @ $2.20, $5,900 @ $2, $2,250 @ $2, $2,000 @ $2

RACE FOUR

Centimental led throughout to win the Chandon Handicap (1500 metres) and bring about the undoing of the hot favourite, And We Danced.

Centimental, taken straight to the front by Hugh Bowman, jumped a $6 chance and was the second most popular runner in terms of money held.

Although attracting eachway support, And We Danced overshadowed the stablemate and held three times as much money.

The Chris Waller galloper was crunched from $2.80 in the morning to start $2.20.

BETS: Centimental $1,000 @ $6 MULTIPLE TIMES

BETS: And We Danced $7,000 @ $2.40, $5,000 @ $2.30, $5,000 @ $2.20, $4,000 @ $2.20, $3,000 @ $2.20

RACE FIVE

The push at odds for More Sundays paid dividends in the Midway Handicap (1300 metres).

Out of the Sam Kavanagh barn, More Sundays ($14-$9.50) was nibbled throughout the day before jumping at single figures.

Hugh Bowman timed his run to perfection to nail the leader Oakfield Arrow ($7-$6.50) right on the line.

It was a case of another costly favourite for punters with Military Expert ($3.10-$3.90) failing to run a drum. He held 48 percent of the money while Akihiro ($11-$6.50), which opened $16 on Wednesday, was the second best supported but it too failed to place.

RACE SIX

The money suggested Crystal Pegasus would be the one to beat in the Schweppes Handicap (2000 metres).

Opening at $3.80 on Wednesday, Crystal Pegasus was one of the first horses backed. Today, he went $3.60-$2.90 and held 37 percent of the total investment.

Punters had it bang on the money with Casino Kid ($3.80-$4.20), a $5 chance when opening, running the quinella spot.

BETS: Crystal Pegasus $2,000 @ $2.90, $2,000 @ $2.80

RACE SEVEN

Overpass led throughout to cause an upset in the XXXX Expressway Stakes (1200 metres).

Anamoe ($1.75-$2.30) went around as one of the most popular horses all day in terms of money taken. He held 65 percent of the money but drifted over the latter stages in betting.

Overpass ($13-$10) only had light specking compared to the favourite while Forbidden Love ($7-$5.50) and Tiger Of Malay ($8-$6.50) were other movers of note.

BETS: Overpass $900 @ $9.50

RACE EIGHT

Wairere Falls upset the more fancied stablemate in the Ned Whisky Handicap (1500 metres).

While most of the money was going on Chris Waller’s favoured runner Yiyi ($2.70-$2), which was crunched into even money, Wairere Falls ($10-$13) only attracted light interest.

In fact, Wairere Falls only had approximately seven percent of the money on it compared to what was on Yiyi.

Canasta ($7-$4.80) was the best backed outside the favourite.

BETS: Yiyi $3,000 @ $2 MULTIPLE TIMES, $2,500 @ $2

BETS: Wairere Falls $1,000 @ $13 TWICE

RACE NINE

Rule Of Law got one back for favourite players when it was a little too good in the Rosehill Bowling Handicap (1200 metres).

Bjorn Baker’s talented gelding was smashed throughout the day. Punters were being offered as much as $2.40 this morning but come jump time, that was well and truly gone with $1.85 available.

The Bopper ($3.70-$6) did his best to fight off the fav in the run to the line but had to settle for second. The Kris Lees runner had plenty of support too and held half of what the winner did.

BETS: Rule Of Law $2,500 @ $2.15, $5,000 @ $1.95, $4,416 @ $1.90, $2,000 @ $1.90, $5,000 @ $1.85

RACE TEN

It was a boilover in the last with Impasse getting up at $41 to win the Precise Fire Handicap (1400 metres).

The Matthew Dunn-trained galloper opened the day at $19 and although coming in for some specking, blew out to $41 by the time the race rolled around. Narvaez ($3-$2.70) was well tried all day and held three times as much money as anything else, however, let the team down after being unplaced.

Secretively ($13-$7) nearly pulled off a good betting move after opening double figures and having gone around at Canterbury last night. It was nabbed right on the line.

Van Giz ($5.50) had plenty of admirers also.

BETS: Van Giz $6,000 @ $6

BETS: Narvaez $10,500 @ $2.80

MOONEE VALLEY

RACE ONE

N/A

RACE TWO

Americain Angel landed some nice bets for her backers after sweeping to victory in the second event on the card.

The Danny O’brien-trained mare came around the bulk of the field with a big run to score nicely. Going around as the only horse to hold six figures with TAB, Americain Angel ($2.80-$3) was nearly twice as popular as anything else in the race.

Sweet Karolina ($4.60-$4.20) was best tried outside the winner.

BETS: Americain Angel $20,000 @ $3.10

RACE THREE

Zoltan was the big mover and got the cash in the Ascend Sales Trophies Handicap (1600 metres).

Opening the day at $4.60, Symon Wilde’s rep came into $3.80 at the jump and nearly took favouritism from the easing Stay Gold ($2.20-$3.60).

Stay Gold commanded the bulk of the money though and was responsible for over half the market.

BETS: Zoltan $1,000 @ $3.90, $1,000 @ $3.80 TWICE

RACE FOUR

Rousseau wasn’t totally friendless in the lead up to the Entry Education Martin Ralston Cup (2040 metres).

The Chris Waller runner was $11-$9 on the day and held just as much money as the second pick in the market, Pitchanun ($4.80-$5).

Although the gelding had his admirers, it paled in comparison to what was riding on the favourite.

Dundirtcheap ($2.50-$2.80) was three times as popular as the winner and nearly held 50 percent of all bets on the race.

BETS: Rousseau $1,000 @ $9, $1,000 @ $8

BETS: Dundirtcheap $5,000 @ $2.70, $4,000 @ $2.70

RACE FIVE

Pinstriped took out a fairly competitive running of the Chandler Macleod VOBIS Gold Carat (1200 metres).

Sent out a $3.10 favourite after opening the day at $2.70, Pinstriped was the third most popular runner behind Luna Cat ($8-$4.60) and Finance Tycoon ($3.30-$3.90).

BETS: Pinstriped $2,020 @ $3.10, $3,000 @ $3

RACE SIX

Favourite backers were on good terms with themselves after the running of the Steamatic Handicap (1600 metres).

Gentleman Roy ($2.30-$1.95-$2) went around with a stack riding on it and did the right thing by his backers.

Commanding 53 percent of the total investment, Gentleman Roy was nearly four times as popular as anything else in the event.

BETS: Gentleman Roy $2,400 @ $2.25, $2,000 @ $2.15, $9,500 @ $2.10, $2,900 @ $2.10, $2,727 @ $2.10, $4,500 @ $1.95, $3,000 @ $1.95

RACE SEVEN

One of the ‘good things’ of the day was ultra impressive in winning the MA Services Group Australia Stakes (1200 metres).

Marabi ($1.80) held more money than most horses around the country today, with punters more than happy to take the odds-on about the rising star.

Leading throughout and blitzing her rivals, Marabi landed plenty of big bets and multis.

TAB reacted by installing Marabi at $26 to win the Everest later on in the year while she also shortened in several other futures markets.

BETS: Marabi $4,300 @ $1.90, $10,000 @ $1.85, $4,600 @ $1.85, $4,500 @ $1.85, $4,000 @ $1.85, $3,800 @ $1.85, $4,000 @ $1.80

RACE EIGHT

The money was spot on with Midwest when it came to the running of the Rendr Handicap (1000 metres).

Already attracting money earlier in the week when opening at $3.70, Midwest was further hit today and went $2.50 out to as much as $2.60 before being hammered into a $1.85 quote.

He was easily the best supported runner in the race with a tick over 50 percent of the total investment riding on him.

BETS: Midwest $3,700 @ $2.60, $4,000 @ $2.30, $4,000 @ $2.20, $3,000 @ $2, $2,500 @ $2, $2,000 @ $2, $5,000 @ $1.90

RACE NINE

In a fairly wide open race to finish off the day at Moonee Valley, Okay To Pay finished best.

Although hovering around the $8-$8.50 mark for most of the afternoon, Okay To Pay attracted little interest in betting as TAB bookies kept it safe.

Most of the money was riding on the runner-up Little Stevie ($4.40-$4.80) while More ($5-$7.50) had its fair share of admirers.

Universal Lady ($6) was also popular while Boss Lady Rocks ($8.50) was also tried at the eachway odds.
