DOOMBEN
RACE FIVE – THE PAM ONEILL
Nudge drifted slightly in betting for the running of the Magic Millions Pam O’neill Stakes (1600 metres).
The Chris Waller mare went $5.50-$7 on the day despite being one of the more popular horses in terms of money held outside the favourite.
Paradee ($3.50-$3.80) went around with more than double the amount of money than any other runner.
BETS: Nudge $1,400 @ $6
RACE SIX – THE CHIEF DE BEERS
Punters were on a number of runners heading into the XXXX Chief De Beers (1110 metres).
California Zimbol ($8.50-$6) attracted strong eachway investments throughout the day and held the most money. Sugar Boom ($5.50-$4.60) had plenty riding on it while The Astrologist ($10-$7) trimmed up from double figures.
The winner, Varda, was $6 in the morning but reached $9.50 by the time the field jumped and didn’t attract a great deal of support.
BETS: Varda $500 @ $9.50
RACE SEVEN – CHANNEL 7 DOOMBEN CUP
The market was spot on in the Channel 7 Doomben Cup (2000 metres) with punters delivering a hammer blow to bookies.
Zaaki ($2.80-$2-$2.20) was the first horse backed when the field and barrier draw were released earlier in the week. At that point, $3 was on the table.
Today $2.80 was the first price offered and the Annabel Neasham-trained gelding was crunched into even money before starting a dominant $2.20 favourite.
Sir Dragonet ($3.70-$5) was easily best backed to beat it even though it drifted.
The market was spot on with Mugatoo which drifted all week. Opening $4, today it was $5 and reached $7 just minutes from the jump before starting $6.50.
Of the rest, Shared Ambition went $21-$11 off handy eachway support.
BETS: Zaaki $2,292 @ $2.60, $2,200 @ $2.60, $2,000 @ $2.60 (all same customer), $2,500 @ $2.40, $1,100 @ $2.40, $7,800 @ $2.30, $3,000 @ $2.30, $6,500 @ $2.20, $4,500 @ $2.10, $4,000 @ $2.10
RACE EIGHT – TAB BRC SPRINT
Not many gave Emerald Kingdom a chance to take out the TAB BRC Sprint (1350 metres).
Hovering around the $34 quote for most of the day, there was only light specking for the Robert Heathcote galloper as the majority of investments were with Garibaldi ($3.10).
Tony Gollan’s rep was responsible for 36 percent of the money in the Group 3 feature.
Ranier ($7.50-$9) was the second most popular but held less than half of what the fav did.
RACE NINE – THE ROSES
Only Words was pretty solid throughout the day in the lead up to the ANZ Bloodstock News The Roses (2000 metres).
Jumping at $15, Chris Waller’s filly was $16 at the start of the day but had gone out from an opening price of $11 on Wednesday.
Grace And Harmony was the money runner after going around with 33 percent of the market on her back.
Bargain, which hovered around the $4 mark for most of the afternoon, was second most popular and the only other runner which held six figures.
BETS: Only Words $500 @ $15, $500 @ $13
ROSEHILL
RACE SEVEN – LORD MAYORS CUP
Polly Grey was a losing result for TAB in the Lord Mayors Cup (2000 metres).
The Chris Waller mare was backed from $6.50-$5 and attracted a number of big bets throughout the day.
There was very little between her and Parry Sound ($3.20) in terms of money held. Combined, they were responsible for 45 percent of the total investment.
Of the others, He Runs Away really tightened up after peaking at $34 to eventually jump a $14 shot.
BETS: Knights Order $1,000 @ $7, $1,000 @ $6.50
BETS: Polly Grey $1,500 @ $5, $1,000 @ $5

RACE EIGHT – THE XXXX HANDICAP @ ROSEHILL
Kirwans Lane upset the apple cart by running down hot favourite Ellsberg in the shadows of the post of the XXXX Handicap (1500 metres).
Brenton Avdulla got everything out of Kirwans Lane ($6.50-$8.50) who did get out in the market just a touch.
Ellsberg ($2.50-$1.75-$1.95) was hammered throughout the day and held six times more money than anything else in the event.
