RANDWICK

RACE ONE

Amy’s Shadow landed some handy investments by taking out the TAB Highway Class 3 Handicap (1600 metres).

The Brett Thompson-trained runner was the third most popular runner in the race and jumped a $5 chance after being pretty solid at that price for most of the day.

Only Scarleo ($4.80-$5.50) and Tempel One ($4) held more with the latter going around with three times as much money as the winner.

BETS:

BETS: Tempel One $1,888 @ $4.20, $1,000 @ $4.20 MULTIPLE TIMES, $1,000 @ $4 MULTIPLE TIMES

BETS: Obelos $1,000 @ $6.50

RACE TWO

Those that took the shorts about Wild Ruler didn’t have any cause for concern in the Polytrack Roman Consul Stakes (1200 metres).

TAB customers came from far and wide to back the Team Snowden runner who was even money in the morning with Doubtland $2.25. Sheer weight of money and the multi roll saw Wild Ruler crunched into $1.60 which means Doubtland went out to $3.10.

Going around with more than double the amount of money than Doubtland, Wild Ruler put away the leader Osamu ($14) early in the straight before holding off On The Lead ($12) and Doubtland.

BETS: Wild Ruler $5,140 @ $1.95, $3,334 @ $1.90, $4,100 @ $1.70, $5,000 @ $1.60, $4,500 @ $1.60, $3,000 @ $1.60, $2,000 @ $1.55

RACE THREE

Another one that punters were willing to jump on despite the hot price was Criaderas in the Drinkwise Handicap (1400 metres).

The Godolphin runner jumped at $1.85 after bottoming out at $1.80 approximately 15 minutes out from the start of the race. Astute punters who didn’t want to wait secured $2.15 in the morning and $2.30 earlier in the week.

A son of Lohnro, Criaderas came from last under Rachel King to land countless big bets and multis with the pair going around with 61 percent of the money.

Zakat ($10-$14) and Bottega ($5-$6-$5.50) filled the minors. Bound To Win ($5-$6.50) had admirers but was soft late.

RACE FOUR

Those that buttered up again on She’s Ideel were rewarded after she rattled home for a last-stride win in the Tresemme Handicap (2000 metres).

In one of the most open betting races of the day, She’s Ideel ($5-$5.50-$5) was the subject of good support throughout the afternoon and went around as the second most popular runner in the race behind Quintessa.

Quintessa was $8.50 earlier in the week and today, went $5 into as low as $3.90 before jumping a $4.20 favourite.

Archanna ($4.20-$4.80) held plenty of good best as did Vegas Jewel ($7.50).

The most confidence in this race was around Peltzer.

Trained by Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou, Peltzer ($2.60) went around as the most popular runner but there was also strong backing for Prime Star ($3.70) which was as much as $8 on Wednesday.

Jet Propulsion ($3.60-$4.20) also attracted a number of good bets in the Heineken Stan Fox Stakes (1500 metres).

BETS: Prime Star $2,000 @ $4, $1,500 @ $4, $1,000 @ $4, $3,500 @ $3.80

RACE SIX

The betting told the story for the running of the Silver Eagle (1300 metres) with Alligator Blood a noted drifter throughout the day.

David Vandyke’s stable star was an alarming drifter having been $1.75 in the morning before getting out to his best price all week of $2.50 at the jump.

The son of All Too Hard was clearly the most popular with TAB customers though despite the drift and he accounted for half the money on the race.

Flit ($10-$9-$10) was pretty solid for most of the day while Subpoenaed ($4.40-$3.50-$3.60) was the strongest push to beat the favourite. Dawn Passage ($4.80-$4.20) was a quiet firm throughout the day and attracted strong money late.

The big move for Montefilia earlier in the day for the Moet & Chandon Spring Champion Stakes (2000 metres).

David Payne’s stable star was backed from $3.40 in the morning into $2.70 with most of the damage done early in the day.

Going around as easily the most popular runner in the race, Montefilia held 33 percent of the total investment.

There was a decent push for Cherry Tortoni ($6-$4.60) all day while Love Tap ($3.40-$4.80) just continued to blow all week after being equal favourite on Wednesday.

Of the others, Socrates ($34-$41-$16) was specked at a price while Lion’s Roar ($18) was pretty solid throughout the day.

BETS: Montefilia $1,199 @ $3.50, $3,500 @ $3.20, $2,500 @ $3.20, $1,000 @ $3.20 MULTIPLE TIMES, $2,000 @ $2.70, $7,671 @ $2.60, $6,000 @ $2.60, $2,000 @ $2.60 MULTIPLE TIMES

RACE EIGHT

In a very open betting affair it was Emeralds that finished best to take out the Bentley Angst Stakes (1600 metres).

The John Sargent-trained galloper was pretty solid for most of the day at the $8 quote and attracted some decent money, however, she was overshadowed by a number of others in the market.

The story of the race was Scarlet Dream ($11-$5) being sensationally backed into favouritism while there were strong pushes for Nudge ($14-$9.50-$8.50) and All Saints Eve ($5-$7.50) which drifted but still attracted some support.

Greysful Glamour ($13-$10-$11) had admirers at the price.

BETS: Emeralds $1,000 @ $7

BETS: All Saints Eve $2,500 @ $7.50, $2,500 @ $6.50

BETS: Positive Peace $7,000 @ $8, $3,000 @ $7.50

RACE NINE

Despite a big drift it was Blazing Miss that was too speedy in the Antler Luggage Sprint (1000 metres).

The Mark Newnham-trained galloper was $10 for most of the day but blew out to $16 at the jump ($17 best) as the support came for those at the top of the market.

Mr Mosaic ($6.50-$4) was crunched late and attracted a huge bet of $13,000 in the final minutes of betting while Plaquette ($6-$4.60) narrowly missed out on landing a handy move for Godolphin fans.

Human Nature, which had been $4.20 favourite in the morning, got out just a touch to be $5 at start time.

CAULFIELD

RACE ONE

Punters were on top in the opening race of the day – the Magic Millions Debutant Stakes (1000 metres).

For most of the week, Fake Love ($5.50-$4.20-$5) was the subject of strong support but today it was Extreme Warrior ($10-$7.50-$5) which was backed into equal favouritism.

The pair were responsible for 56 percent of the total investment.

It was a losing result for TAB with the pair finishing one-two.

BETS: Fake Love $1,000 @ $4.80, $1,000 @ $4.20

BETS: Anamoe $1,000 @ $6.50

RACE TWO

Swat’s That defied a late betting drift to land the money in the Thoroughbred Club Stakes (1200 metres).

The subject of strong support throughout the day and favourite all week, Swat’s That went $2.30 out to $2.80 late in betting thanks to the money for Muntaseera.

The Ciaron Maher & Dave Eustace runner was well tried throughout the day and firmed from a $4.20 quote in the morning to start $3.30.

In terms of popularity, the pair were head and shoulders above anything else in the race and accounted for over 70 percent of the total investment.

Letzbeglam ($8.50-$9-$7.50) was tried at the eachway odds while Bella Nipotina ($6-$11) was a big drifter throughout the day.

BETS: Swats That $1,500 @ $2.80, $6,750 @ $2.30, $3,500 @ $2.25

BETS: Muntaseera $1,000 @ $4.20, $1,000 @ $4, $4,000 @ $3.90, $1,000 @ $3.80, $2,500 @ $3.40

BETS: Letzbeglam $1,000 @ $8

RACE THREE

The ‘good thing’ of the day did the right thing by his backers in The Big Screen Company Weekend Hussler (1400 metres).

Windstorm was smashed today and went around as one of the most popular horses throughout the country, going from $2 into $1.70 favourite.

Such was the popularity of the Grant & Alana Williams-trained gelding that he held just over 70 percent of the total investment.

Everything else in the race drifted thanks largely due to the heavy support for the fav who was extremely popular with multi players too.

BETS: Windstorm $4,000 @ $1.95, $1,920 @ $1.95, $4,625 @ $1.70

RACE FOUR

There was some specking around to suggest that Fiesta would run a solid race in the Keno Northwood Plume Stakes (1200 metres).

Hovering around the $9.50-$10 mark for most of the day, Fiesta attracted some handy eachway investments throughout the day and was the fifth most popular runner in terms of money held. Felicia ($3.60-$3.40) was easily the best tried and held twice as much as anything else. Exhilarates ($7-$8.50) and Xilong ($6.50) were the others to hold more than the winner as well as Lyre ($4.60).

BETS: Fiesta $1,200 @ $9.50, $1,000 @ $9.50

BETS: Lyre $2,000 e/w @ $4.60/$1.85

BETS: Exhilarates $3,010 @ $8.50, $1,000 @ $7.50

RACE FIVE

Although the McCafe Schillaci Stakes (1100 metres) was a small field, punters embraced the event with every single runner holding some decent money.

In the end, the most popular runner in the shape of Dirty Work ($3.80-$3.60-$4.20) provided TAB with a losing result in front of Diamond Effort ($3.40-$4) which had her backers all week.

Splintex ($5.50) and Hey Doc ($7-$5.50) were next best in terms of money while Bold Star ($9) had plenty of admirers too.

BETS: Dirty Work $1,000 @ $4 MULTIPLE TIMES, $2,000 @ $3.80

BETS: Bold Star $5,000 @ $8, $1,000 @ $8 TWICE

RACE SIX

Countless multis and big bets were toast after Russian Camelot was a beaten odds-on favourite in the Caulfield Stakes (2000 metres).

Danny O’brien’s stable star was sensationally backed despite being a hot $1.40 favourite.

Popular with big punters and multi players alike, Russian Camelot was nearly four times as popular as the second pick in the market which was Arcadia Queen ($4.80-$5.50).

The only other horse in the race to attract decent support was Humidor ($5.50-$8.50) but it too was a drifter.

Bets on Russian Camelot accounted for 63 percent of the total investment.

BETS: Russian Camelot $19,000 @ $1.40, $9,000 @ $1.40, $8,075 @ $1.40, $7,400 @ $1.40, $6,000 @ $1.40, $5,940 @ $1.40, $3,000 @ $1.40 MULTIPLE TIMES, $2,000 @ $1.40, $1,400 @ $1.40, $3,000 @ $1.35

RACE SEVEN

Odeum’s win was no fluke in the Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600 metres).

TAB went up $18 about the Written Tycoon filly about all week there was strong money to suggest she would be very competitive.

Today, $10 was on offer and she was pretty solid at the price and went around as the third most popular runner in the event behind Hungry Heart and Instant Celebrity.

Personal ($16-$15) had specking at the price and ran right up to the support while Instant Celebrity ($3.80-$4.40) was mainly a drifter on the day but held a number of big bets. She was three times as popular as the winner.

The disappointment from a betting perspective was Hungry Heart which was crunched ever since the barrier draw.

TAB had $4.20 on offer about her and $3.30 was still available today, however, sheer weight of money saw her come into $2.70 fav and go around with 44 percent of the money in the race.

RACE EIGHT

The drifting favourite was the one to deliver the goods in the Group One Caulfield Guineas (1600 metres).

Although attracting good money throughout the day, Ole Kirk was a drifter and went $3.60 out to $4.20 as support came for a number of other horses.

In a sensational betting race, Tagaloa ($5.50-$4.40) was the best tried on the day while Kings Legacy ($6.50) was pretty solid in betting as was Mo’unga ($6-$7).

The quartet were head and shoulders above anything else in terms of popularity and commanded the lion’s share of investment between them.

BETS: Mo’unga $4,000 x $1,000 e/w @ $7/$2.30, $3,500 @ $7, $2,000 @ $7, $1,000 @ $7 MULTIPLE TIMES, $1,250 e/w @ $6/$2.20

RACE EIGHT

The money was off the mark in the Lexus Toorak Handicap (1600 metres).

Junipal ($4.20-$4.80-$3.90) was a drifter in the morning but then heavily tried in the last hour or so of betting. Cascadian ($11-$9-$6.50) was easily the most notable firer in the race and held plenty of money. In fact, the Godolphin runner was the third most popular behind Junipal and Buffalo River ($4-$4.80). Superstorm ($8) carried plenty of big bets too as did I Am Superman ($8-$10).

Mr Quickie ($16-$21-$19) held some handy eachway bets on the day.

Junipal was responsible for 30 percent of the total hold.

BETS: Junipal $5,000 @ $4.80 TWICE, $3,000 e/w @ $4.80/$2, $2,000 @ $4.40, $10,000 @ $3.90, $5,000 @ $3.90

BETS: Superstorm $2,000 @ $8

BETS: Chief Ironside $3,000 @ $26

RACE NINE

Favourite backers were sent packing after the well tried Orderofthegarter failed to run a place in The Herbert Power (2400 metres).

Danny O’brien’s rep went around three-and-a-half times as popular as anything and was carrying the hope of a stack of multis.

The $2.60 favourite, Orderofthegarter ran out of steam over the concluding stages with the Chapada, which wasn’t without a hope, finishing best for Daniel Stackhouse.

Chapada was $7 on Wednesday and today went $6.50 into as low as $4.40 before jumping second pick at $4.80.

Of the others, Zebrowski ($8.50) attracted strong money as did In Good Health ($7.50) which had opened $12 on Wednesday. One customer splashed out $10,000 on the Peter Moodie galloper which gave a good sight out in front before weakening.
