ROSEHILL

RACE ONE

Zoffany’s Lad benefited from a good run just off the speed to take out the Iron Jack Handicap (1900 metres).

The Joe Ible-trained runner was pretty solid in betting and went $13-$12 on the day.

Jockey Sam Clipperton issued a challenge approaching the home turn and the pair hit the front soon after, however, Bobby Dee ($7.50-$9) kept fighting to make it an interesting finish.

White Boots ($7) ran on to grab third in front of race favourite Yonkers ($4.60-$5).

Yonkers held the most money and accounted for roughly 33 percent of the total investment. Welsh Legend ($7.50-$7) was best supported to beat it.

Zoffany’s Lad landed a collect of $57,000 for one customer who splashed out on the galloper shortly after markets were opened on Wednesday (see bet below).

BETS: Zoffany’s Lad $2,000 x $5,000 e/w @ $16/$5

BETS: Welsh Legend $2,000 @ $7, $1,000 @ $7

BETS: Cyber Intervention $10,000 e/w @ $7/$2.60, $1,000 @ $7

BETS: White Boots $1,000 @ $7

RACE TWO

Punters jumped off Prague for the running of the Bowermans Commercial Furniture Pago Pago Stakes (1200 metres).

A heavily backed favourite last time out when finishing fifth, Prague was $9-$7.50 today but still held a fraction of what the popular elects did.

The likes of Ilovemyself and Aim held five times as much as the Maher & Eustace runner.

Doing all the work in the run, Prague outstayed Kumasi ($5-$4.80) with I Am Swerving ($18-$10) running a good race for third after being specked at a price.

Aim ($3.90-$4.20) and Ilovemyself ($2.90-$3.70) were never in the hunt, especially the latter after it was last for most of the trip.

BETS: Prague $1,000 x $500 e/w @ $7.50/$2.30

BETS: Ilovemyself $2,000 @ $3.60, $4,000 @ $3.30, $3,000 @ $3.30

BETS: Kumasi $12,000 @ $5

BETS: Argenteus $1,000 @ $10

BETS: Aim $1,500 @ $4, $1,000 @ $4 MULTIPLE TIMES

RACE THREE

There was a few nibbles around for Thermosphere at big odds for the running of the Antler Luggage Magic Night Stakes (1200 metres).

Starting the day as a $34 shot, support throughout the day saw it firm into $19.

The James Cummings-trained runner arrived in time under James McDonald to beat Time Is Precious ($15-$9) which itself was a firmer throughout the day. Jemss ($51-$126) added plenty of spice to the trifecta.

Stellar Pauline ($2.80-$3) was the most popular runner in terms of money held and commanded nearly 60 percent of the total investment.

Kaakit Akit was a significant drifter going $3.70-$7.50.

BETS: Thermosphere $500 e/w @ $26/$5

BETS: Stellar Pauline $5,000 @ $3, $1,000 @ $3 MULTIPLE TIMES, $2,000 @ $2.90 MULTIPLE TIMES, $1,000 @ $2.90, $1,670 @ $2.80

BETS: Kaakit Akit $18,350 @ $3.70

BETS: Dubai Star $1,500 @ $8.50, $1,000 @ $8

RACE FOUR

It was a minor upset in the running of the Canadian Club Maurice McCarten Stakes (1100 metres).

Star Of The Seas was pretty sold in betting and went around as a $6 shot, however, he was a distant third in popularity behind Greyworm ($3.20) and Zoustyle ($3.60).

The race was knocked about a bit due to the scratching of Soothing which had attracted some good money throughout the day.

Star Of The Seas flew home after chasing the runaway leader Zoustyle, which weakened out of it late.

BETS: Zoustyle $1,000 @ $3.70, $20,000 @ $3.60, $1,200 @ $3.60, $1,000 @ $3.60

BETS: Greyworm $2,000 @ $3.10

RACE FIVE

Odds-on players were on good terms with themselves when Funstar led throughout to take out the Chandon Phar Lap Stakes (1500 metres).

Going around with over half the market riding on her, Funstar booted clear in the straight for James McDonald to land the cash at $1.55.

Probabeel, which came with a big run back in the field, rattled home for second but drifted on the day from $2.40-$3.20.

Quick Thinker was the only one seriously tried outside the pair and was $18-$13.

BETS: Funstar $4,000 @ $1.60, $10,000 @ $1.55, $2,500 @ $1.55, $2,062 @ $1.55 TWICE, $2,000 @ $1.55 MULTIPLE TIMES, $1,000 @ $1.55 MULTIPLE TIMES

BETS: Probabeel $2,000 @ $3

RACE SIX

Imaging was kept safe in betting for the Hyland Race Colours Ajax Stakes (1500 metres).

Heavily backed last start but failing to flatter, Imaging ($7-$6.50) chimed in at the turn and powered away to hold off Yulong Prince ($19-$15) in a great finish.

It was a quinella for Chris Waller and another winner for James McDonald.

Of the others, Quackerjack ($4.60) went around as a popular pick with TAB customers while I Am Superman ($5.50) was a good go at odds after being $11 in the morning.

BETS: Imaging $2,000 @ $6.50

BETS: Quackerjack $1,000 @ $4.60, $1,000 @ $4.40, $1,000 @ $4

BETS: Vegadaze $1,000 @ $7.50

RACE SEVEN

A big drifter in betting all week, Con Te Partiro defied the blows to race away with the Coolmore Classic (1500 metres).

TAB went up $15 about her on Wednesday and today, $16 was on the table in the morning. By the time the race jumped, $23 was being offered about her chances.

One of the least popular runners in the entire field, Con Te Partiro sat third in the run before Tim Clark peeled out on the home turn.

Hitting the front on straightening, Con Te Partiro held off the big finish of Miss Fabulass ($51) while Noire ($11) had solid eachway backing and wound up third.

Pohutukawa was the most popular runner and jumped $4.60 fav after being as low as $4. She held twice as much as Sylvia’s Mother which was a big drifter, $4.20-$7.50.

Of the rest, Benitoite (fourth) ran right up to the support that came for her. She was $26 earlier in the week and today went $11-$9.

BETS: Pohutukawa $6,500 @ $4.40, $1,500 @ $4.40 TWICE, $1,000 @ $4.40 MULTIPLE TIMES, $1,700 @ $4.20, $5,000 @ $4, $1,500 @ $4, $1,350 @ $4, $1,100 @ $4, $1,000 @ $4

BETS: Oceanex $1,000 @ $18

RACE EIGHT

Master Of Wine was backed like a ‘good thing’ and did the right thing by its backers in the TAB Sky High Stakes (2000 metres).

The Team Hawkes runner was $2.30 in the morning and touched odds-on at one point before getting back out to $2.20 at the jump.

Master Of Wine was nearly four times as popular as the next best backed runner which was Life Less Ordinary ($8.50).

Mustajeer ($3.80) had admirers.

BETS: Master Of Wine $1,000 @ $2.20 MULTIPLE TIMES, $2,000 @ $2.15 MULTIPLE TIMES, $1,000 @ $2.15 MULTIPLE TIMES, $4,500 @ $2, $4,000 @ $2, $1,500 @ $2, $6,000 @ $1.18 PLACE

RACE NINE

Some big bets earlier in the week hit the mark when Positive Peace was able to lead all-the-way in the Cerrone Handicap (1350 metres).

TAB went up $4.60 about the mare on Wednesday and the first bet written was $6,000 at that quote.

Drifting out today from $4-$5.50, James McDonald rated the Bjorn Baker runner to perfection to guide her home and give himself five winners for the day.

Royal Celebration ($5-$4.20) had plenty of admirers and held just as much as Positive Peace, with Roheryn ($6) the only other one to hold more.

BETS: Positive Peace $1,000 @ $5.50, $6,000 @ $4.40

BETS: Roheryn $1,000 @ $5.50 TWICE

BETS: Royal Celebration $1,000 @ $4.20

BETS: Accession $1,000 @ $6 TWICE

CAULFIELD

RACE ONE

Exasperate rattled home from the rear to take out the Superior Food Grand Handicap Mile (1600 metres).

Although attracting some support, Exasperate drifted from $7-$8.50 on the day as most of the attention focused on Rainbow Thief ($2.25) and Skiddaw ($4.40-$3.60).

Mitch Aitken timed his run perfectly on the gelding to beat Jester Halo ($13-$21) and Rainbow Thief which was also in the second half of the field.

Between the top two in the market they accounted for nearly 80 percent of the total investment.

BETS: Exasperate $750 @ $7.50, $500 e/w @ $7.50/$2.10

BETS: Skiddaw $1,000 @ $4 TWICE, $1,000 @ $3.80, $10,000 @ $3.70, $2,000 @ $3.60

RACE TWO

Favourite backers were on good terms with themselves after the running of the Lamaro’s Hotel Grand Handicap Classic (2400 metres).

Grand Promenade ($3-$2.60-$2.70) attracted a number of big bets and was nearly twice as popular as second pick in the market, Clementina ($4.40-$3.90).

Despite doing all the work outside the leader, Grand Promenade delivered a losing result for TAB in beating Reflect The Stars ($9-$6) and Clementina which both made three-wide runs.

BETS: Grand Promenade $3,000 @ $2.90, $14,250 @ $2.70, $7,000 @ $2.70, $1,500 @ $2.60

BETS: Clementina $1,000 @ $4.20 TWICE, $1,500 e/w @ $3.90/$1.50

RACE THREE

A small field for the running of the Arrowfield Redoute’s Choice Stakes (1000 metres) saw a very competitive betting affair.

River Night, which led throughout, was $3.80-$3.60 on the day and held a number of big bets. Masseuse ($2.90) was three-wide the trip and finished second while going around as the most popular runner.

Celestial Sol ($2.50-$3.20) was a drifter but had plenty of admirers.

Combined, the two favs held 60 percent of the total investment.

BETS: Thought Of That $20,000 @ $1.50 PLACE

RACE FIVE

Secret Blaze was a costly conveyance in the Mornington Cup Prelude (2000 metres).

The Team McEvoy galloper was over three times as popular as anything else in the race and was crunched into even money at one point before starting $2.10 favourite.

Inverloch was the one that defied the betting drift ($6.50-$12) to get the better of the fav at the finish. Vaucluse Bay ($6) was best tried outside Secret Blaze.

BETS: Secret Blaze $2,000 @ $2.20, $1,000 @ $2.20, $4,000 @ $2, $2,155 @ $2, $2,000 @ $2 MULTIPLE TIMES

RACE SIX

A late push for Excess Funds paid off in the Inglis Dash (1100 metres).

Backed from $6.50-$5.50 late, Excess Funds finished off powerfully under Hugh Bowman to beat a very unlucky Wayupinthesky ($3.60-$3.20 fav) which only got out late.

Of the rest, Sartorial Splendor ($3.90-$4.60-$4) trimmed up late as did Excused ($9.50-$11-$9.50).

The Grant and Alana Williams-trained runner was kept safe in betting most of the day and went $11-$10 throughout the afternoon.

One of the most popular runners outside Alligator Blood, Regal Power led home a stable quinella with Superstorm ($13-$15) rattling home for second in front of Melody Belle ($4.20-$4-$4.60).

BETS: Kolding $2,000 @ $11, $1,000 @ $11

RACE EIGHT

Favourite backers were sent packing when odds-on fav Admirals Joker was unplaced in the Anniversary Vase (1600 metres).

Going around with over 60 percent of the money, Craig Williams issued his challenge at the top of the straight and looking the winner at one point, the pair weakened out of it to run fourth.

Guizot ($15-$10) came with a booming finish to land a nice move at double figure odds for Linda Meech.

Scarlet Dream ($10-$16) flashed home to finish a close second after drifting for most of the day.

RACE NINE

The big move for Phoenix Global went amiss in the final event of the program from Caulfield.

Going around a $2.40 favourite for the Nick Johnstone Real Estate Grand Handicap (1200 metres), Phoenix Global was crunched in from $4 in the morning and held 33 percent of the total investment.
