The Tibbie Stakes (1350m), the feature mares race of the Newcastle Carnival, always attracts a quality field and 2016 is no exception, with Mona Lisa Stakes winner Fitou opening favourite with Sportbet.com.au to take out the event this Friday.
The Godolphin mare was first up in the Mona Lisa on Wyong Cup Day where she was ridden a treat by McDonald and duly saluted in a similar field. She has opened the $4 favourite and holds sway over former SA way Rocket Commander at $6, who is now with Matty Dale.
Savoureux, a Kris Lees trained mare who is backing up from the Sheraco last Saturday, has already had early interest, into $7 from $7.50. Mares making their NSW debut, No Pushover ($9) and Spirit Bird ($11), are kept very safe in betting.
