Justhorseracing.com.au sat down with Palmerbet CEO, Grant Palmer who has over 15 years’ experience in the industry, to get all his insights from a bookies perspective ahead of a massive Saturday of Racing at both Flemington and Randwick.
This weekend’s cards are stacked with talent, headlined by two Group 1’s – the George Main Stakes at Randwick, and the Makybe Diva Stakes at Flemington. To give us a bookie’s eye-view of this weekend, we spoke with Palmerbet’s Grant Palmer about early betting and to get his top tips.
Where is the money going for Saturday’s Group 1’s – the George Main Stakes at Randwick, and the Makybe Diva Stakes at Flemington?
With Winx going around at $1.10 and less these days, we’re seeing most of the George Main Stakes action flow through place odds on her rank outsiders – plenty of confidence that Red Excitement can produce another bottler to run a hole, while Foxplay, Ecuador and Happy Clapper have also seen sprinklings of interest.
In the Makybe Diva Stakes, it’s all Hartnell. All the early action points to another dominant win for him second-up.
Who wins the George Main Stakes and the Makybe Diva Stakes on Saturday?
Punters have us by a tight grip in Saturday’s features, and I wish I could say otherwise but the answer to that question is Winx and Hartnell.
Who is your best value pick over the weekend?
Tracking a little wide here but I don’t mind the price of Cellargirl in the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes at Randwick. Trainer Kelly Schweida has been prepping them well of late and his decision to bring this filly down from Queensland warrants respect. Each-way.
Who is your lay of the weekend and why?
I plan to be against English in the Group 2 Shorts at Randwick. She’s obviously got ability but her recent 1 from 9 record doesn’t look flattering. I think she needs some give in the ground and they’ll be racing on a pretty fast surface at Randwick this weekend. We’re top odds on her now and will be happy to keep laying her up until race time.
