The Group 1 sprinting ranks will be set alight again this weekend with the running of The Goodwood at Morphettville. We sat down with Palmerbet CEO, Grant Palmer, to look at the market and pick his brain on which runners will be in the finish.
What’s the betting picture look like for The Goodwood so far?
It’s Vega Magic and not much else for punters at this point. The Hayes & Dabernig stable star has been solid around the $2.70 mark since final fields were declared.
Who would you send your money round on in the race?
Vega Magic won this race last year off a similar set up, before being let up to come back and dominate the early Spring in Melbourne. If he brings that same fresh form with him this Saturday, the others are in for a dusting.
But, he is well found in the market, so if you’re willing to look elsewhere, I think Viddora and Supercash have their own winning claims.
What is it about those runners you like?
Viddora has mixed it with the best sprinters we’ve got for a good 12 months now. She missed the Sangster through injury, but if she’s overcome that, she’s a big danger here. Loves her runs spaced so the four weeks off looks a treat if she’s been able to fully recover.
Supercash went to the line totally untested in the Sangster. Her stats don’t rate the best for this, but she’s drawn fairly and gets Jamie Kah on who is dominating the SA riding ranks this season.
