From the ‘here’s something you don’t see everyday’ file, which I LOVE finding, an old bay mare is racing at Wellington this afternoon.
And I think she can win at around $11.
Her name is ENIGAMI (Enemy of Average – Arisara) and today will be her 91st race start.
It’s going to be slow out at Wello today but she ploughs through it at that level and boasts a good record on damp surfaces, plus, she has a great gate.
But, the really interesting thing about her, which qualifies her for the you don’t see, etc, etc, is that she is a rising 11-year-old!
Yep, she is still going around, defying the logic of many, at a time when nearly every mare is in the paddock in foal.
She must have an iron constitution and good on her owners Phillipe Vigouroux and Ken Quigley.
Her career has been a good one for them too, having won 10 races thus far and placing 27 times to boot. If she wins today her prize money passes the $200,000 mark.
Winning will be tough, there is no doubt about that, but I’m tipping she can.
She gets a massive, and welcome 4kg allowance for apprentice Jackson Searle, in the context of things here, and he has his tail up having ridden his first ever winner at the Sapphire Coast last week. So May month has been good to him already.
In addition to that, Enigami has recently placed at this level at Nowra, which tends to be a length or two better than out west.
If she leads from this gate, around this track with this weight I think she lands the chocolates and I will be betting accordingly.
At 10am this morning she was $11 with Palmerbet.
