Group 1-winning sprinter Reserve Bank will begin his stud career at Evergreen Stud in New South Wales this spring after being purchased through Inglis Digital’s inaugural Bull Ring Sale.
The son of Capitalist will stand his first season at a service fee of $16,500 (inc GST), becoming the foundation stallion for Evergreen Stud’s expanding breeding operation.
Stud principal Aaron Bott believes Reserve Bank combines elite race performance with a pedigree that gives him every opportunity to succeed at stud.
“He is one of only 10 colts to win an open age Group 1 in Australia over 1400m or less since 2018, placing him alongside the likes of Home Affairs, Alabama Express, Bivouac and Jacquinot,” Bott said.
“His sire Capitalist is a Golden Slipper-winning son of Written Tycoon, whose reputation as a sire of sires goes from strength to strength and physically he is very true to type for this sireline.”
Bred and offered by Segenhoe Stud, Reserve Bank was purchased for $410,000 by Mick Price at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale before being developed into an elite sprinter by the Price Kent stable.
He made an immediate impression by winning his debut by five-and-a-half lengths as a two-year-old before reaching the highest level at three.
Reserve Bank became the first three-year-old colt in 20 years to win the Goodwood Handicap, storming home from near the rear to defeat Group 1 winners Giga Kick, Charm Stone and Climbing Star.
Bott said the stallion’s European female family added valuable diversity and staying influence to an Australian speed pedigree.
The Price Kent stable has previously enjoyed significant success developing Group 1 winner and leading sire Extreme Choice after purchasing him as a yearling.
Co-trainer Michael Kent Jr believes Reserve Bank has all the qualities needed to become a successful stallion.
“He had an exceptional turn of foot, a real will to win and a magnificent attitude… if he throws sons and daughters like himself, you’ll have a lot of fun with them,” Kent said.
