Race 1. (15:30) Tai Lam Handicap (Class 5) 1400m
1 Rattan Galaxy (Bet Now:Β $SP.00), I think, puts this field away. He resumed at this track/distance two weeks ago when off speed and chased with purpose in the straight in a good effort in defeat behind Manythanks Forever. Fitter, Purton takes over with a kind map…he’s clearly the one to beat.
2 Sterling Wongchoy (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has done his recent racing over the mile at Happy Valley and comes to Sha Tin. Latest run was a few weeks ago when second, sitting just off speed and tried hard but found one better. Knocking on the door, he commands respect.
6 Wiseman (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes here with fresh legs for Danny Shum, having not raced since Nov 26 over the mile at Happy Valley when off speed and just whacked to the line behind Yiu Cheong Victory. Tick over trial was solid enough and do think back to 1400m is a tick.
Race 2. (16:00) Tsam Chuk Wan Handicap (Class 4) 1000m
I see no reason why 2 Turquoise Velocity (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) can’t go 2/2. Debut win at this track/distance was quite impressive, sitting on speed before being clicked up and away he went to win and win well. Drawn the right part of the track this time around, he takes beating.
6 Live Wire (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a son of Tassort that is on debut for David Hayes. He has looked quite strong in trial work for start one, the latest being a narrow but impressive win here. Drawn to be near the speed, right part of the track, he’s a clear threat.
5 Comet Radiance (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is another by Tassort that debuts, this one for Tony Cruz. He won his latest trial, that coming at Conghua, and to my eye moved well enough, so I say watch the market and see what it does.
Race 3. (16:30) Tai Mong Tsai Handicap (Class 4) 1200m
1 Vulcanus (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) on top but not really a race I want to get involved in. He ran over this track/distance last start when off speed and kept chasing but was never really threatening behind Cool Boy. Likely spots them a start but if he can get a drag into the race, he’ll take holding out.
6 Notthesillyone (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is flying for Mark Newnham, winning two on the bounce. The two wins have come at this track/distance, leading throughout and has found plenty under pressure to fend them off and score. Good racing style and will look the winner for a long way.
5 My Triumph (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a son of All Too Hard that debuts for David Hayes. He has had extensive trial work to get ready for start one and each time hasn’t looked too bad despite clear improvement to come. Gate makes things tricky but I’d watch betting.
Race 4. (17:00) Tai Mong Tsai Handicap (Class 4) 1200m
1 Day Day Victory (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is the way I am leaning. He won two back at this track/distance before going to Happy Valley where he got back to near last in the run and while he was never threatening, he kept chasing and was pretty good in defeat. Just needs a drag into the race to be effective late.
3 Beauty Thunder (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) was far from disgraced two back at this track/distance before going to 1000m at Happy Valley where he tried hard but had to settle for a second. Purton sticks, he lands in a plum spot from the draw…hard to beat.
8 Kolachi (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes back to 1200m after recent runs over the mile at Happy Valley. He did early work from the wide gate last time but was there to threaten I thought. He just whacked in the run to the line. Needs luck, but I think is capable of a forward showing.
Race 5. (17:30) Broadwood Handicap (Class 4) 1400m
2 City Thunder (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a few weeks between runs since resuming at this track/distance where he got into a decent spot in transit just off speed and tried hard after getting held up but when eventually clear, I think he just whacked to the line. The good lead is that Purton sticks and fitter, he’ll do me.
3 Gallant Epoch (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) was five weeks between runs when racing over this track/distance two weeks ago. He got near the front and was there to put the race away but had no answers late for Nyx Gluck. He’ll have good improvement from that and is in the mix.
8 Lucky Man (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) was 1400m back to 1200m when racing at Happy Valley last time. He got off speed and just found them a bit sharp but didn’t mind the way he finished his race off in defeat. Like him back up in trip, he’s dangerous.
Race 6. (18:00) The Po Leung Kuk Cup (Class 4) 1400m
4 Flow Water Flow (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has been strong in two career outings for John Size and looks primed for 1400m. Both career runs have come over 1200m at Happy Valley, being runner up each time and has been strong to the line. Looks so well placed here. Keen.
11 Positive Smile (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a key threat. He was a real eye catcher at this track/distance last time, getting a fair way out of his ground but really liked the way he closed off late when third. If he can settle closer and be within range, he’ll be around the mark.
1 Lucky Xander (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes to Class 4 grade after racing last week in a Class 3 when outclassed and was never really a factor. Better suited at this level, I do think he’s a definite improver at odds. One for exotics.
Race 7. (18:35) Leighton Handicap (Class 2) 1600m
8 Top Dragon (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks the straight bat play. He is four weeks between runs since racing over 1400m here, getting into a decent spot off speed and tried hard but couldn’t quite finish the job when second to Little Paradise. Unknown at 1600m but is racing as if it will be fine, he maps well and gets serious weight relief.
1 Sagacious Life (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is several weeks between runs since racing over this track/distance where he didn’t get the clearest of paths in the run but despite that, I thought he could have finished his race off a bit better behind Hong Lok Golf. Tick over trial last week was strong though and Purton takes over.
3 Lo Rider (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes back to the mile after racing over 2000m here on Dec 27 last weekend when off speed and failed to fire but I will say he was a mess in the mounting yard and ran accordingly. Better suited here, dangerous if he behaves.
Race 8. (19:05) The Bauhinia Sprint Trophy 1000m
6 Colourful King (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should be taking care of these. He looks a very progressive animal for Dave Eustace that was a dynamic track/distance winner last start, giving them a start and an absolute belting in such an impressive win. He’s destined for better races, starting here. He’s the winner.
4 Magic Control (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) was midfield behind Colourful King in the race mentioned above. He then went to 1200m last start and tried hard but had to settle for a second to Sky Trust. Back to 1000m, he’ll be near the speed and trying hard.
5 Victor The Winner (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is one of the more interesting runners on the card. He comes back to 1000m after racing over 1400m on Dec 14 here. He got into a decent spot off speed but didn’t really fire and just whacked in the run to the line. If he brings his best, he can threaten, but he’s hard to trust. Just banking on class.
Race 9. (19:40) Tai Tong Shan Handicap (Class 3) 1200m
5 Victory Sky (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has found winning form and he can go on with it. He has been freshened up since Nov 30 when a dominant last start track/distance winner, sitting off speed before angling into clear air and he really knuckled down with purpose late to win and win well. Confidence is up, Purton takes over, he’s the one to beat.
1 Swift Ascend (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a key threat. He ran over this track/distance four weeks ago where he got back in the run but worked home with real purpose in the straight when second to Gorgeous Win. Maps to settle much closer in the run and be effective late.
6 Ariel (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is on the quick back up after racing last weekend over the mile on the dirt when outclassed and never a factor behind New Forest. Interesting he comes back to 1200m, but he is a handy horse when right. Could fill a first four spot at odds.
Race 10. (20:15) Pak Tam Chung Handicap (Class 3) 1200m
3 Loyal Bright (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks ready to win. Did more than enough when resuming at Happy Valley before going to this track/distance two weeks ago where off speed from the wide gate and tried hard when third to Aurora Patch. Maps better, hard fit, he clearly takes beating I say.
1 Power Koepp (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has been given a mini freshen up, not raced since Dec 10 at Happy Valley when not really getting the rub of the green in a blanket finish behind Triumphant More. Tick over trial last week was strong and can settle forward.
2 Lifeline Express (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) ran down the track behind Aurora Patch in the race mentioned above. He got off speed and seemingly got a decent enough run in transit but just whacked. Just about at peak fitness now and his best is good enough to threaten.
Race 11. (20:50) Tai Tong Handicap (Class 3) 1600m
12 Vermillion Tempest (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is worth a throw at the stumps in the get out. Just needed the run first up here behind Sky Joy. He then went to the mile at Happy Valley. He got back to near last in the run and while he was never really threatening, he did keep chasing and was pretty good in defeat. Hard fit now and I reckon connections would have purchased with an eye on the Derby. I think you’ll get a big price here and is worth a peanut each way.
8 Smart Avenue (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since a win over 1400m here, giving them a start and an absolute beating in such an impressive performance. He is racing as if 1600m looks ideal and maps to get a sweet sit in transit.
5 Winning Gold (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes back to the mile after racing over 1800m last start here. He got back to near last in the run and made up some headway without really threatening behind Prestige Good. He’ll drift back but be strong late.
