Ka Ying Rising finished third in his pre-Everest trial at Randwick on Tuesday, with the world’s top-rated sprinter cruising through the 1000-metre hit-out behind Linebacker and Overpass.
A strong crowd gathered to watch the Hong Kong superstar’s final public appearance before the $20 million Everest on October 18. Under regular jockey Zac Purton, Ka Ying Rising wasn’t pushed, finishing a head behind Overpass and a further half-head behind Linebacker, who clocked a sharp 58.39 seconds overall, with the last 600 metres in 33.67.
King Charles III Stakes contender Mr Brightside ran fourth, five lengths adrift, followed by Joliestar, Fangirl and Angel Capital, who over-raced early.
Ka Ying Rising, rated the world’s best sprinter with a mark of 126, has won 14 of his 16 starts in Hong Kong, including his last 13 straight, and remains the $1.50 Everest favourite with online bookmakers.
