Paige Kenney always believed Vane Tempest would get better with time.
Although the Snippetson three-year-old has built an impressive strike rate in her short career, she showed signs of immaturity.
But after coming back from a rare failure and scoring consecutive wins at Pinjarra, Paige Kenney believes there has been enough of a change to suggest she is ready to realise her potential.
“She’s starting to relax and is easier to deal with,” Kenney told The Races WA.
“Early on she had problems floating and at the barriers.
“We actually gave her float training to help her load.
“She seems to be coming to the party now.
“It’s definitely exciting for me with a small team to have her in the stable.
“We are always working towards getting a good horse.
“Sometimes it’s easier said than done.”
Vane Tempest’s last start victory gave Kenney 102 career wins and the 10th of the season, just three shy of her best result in 2016-17.
The three-time stakes winner with Westriver Kevydonn, Kenney said Vane Tempest will tackle Saturday company at Belmont next start.
Her only appearance in town on a Saturday came at Ascot in January when she ran one length second to Dan Morton’s classy filly Kissonallforcheeks.
“She will go to Belmont next start on a Saturday,” Kenney said.
“She is a strong filly who showed that when second to Kissonallforcheeks.
“I haven’t got anything mapped out beyond that at the moment.
“After the run we might have a few options open to us.”
Vain Tempest’s racing resume reads four wins, two seconds and one third from eight career appearances since her debut last August.
A fifth to Standout Rose in the final run of her previous campaign last March is the only occasion she has missed a top three finish.
“She had a few issues in the float before the race and in hindsight she probably shouldn’t have been there,” Kenney said,
“She was passed fit by the vets and there was no issue, but we should have left her at home.
“I’m just pleased by the way in which she has returned.
“She has bounced back well from that race.”
Meanwhile Flower Of Scotland has recently been sold to Darling View Thoroughbreds.
The Domesday mare won 11 races for Kenney including five from seven starts in a purple patch of form at Belmont and Pinjarra last year.
