2/4/2016 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Ascot, Karrakatta Plate day

Blacktype racing continues at Ascot this Saturday where it is Karrakatta Plate Day. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true postiion for the entire circuit.

Race One (15:54) : Amelia Park Wines Handicap (78+) 1800m:

Back Me: 2 Regal Commander (Best Odds: $2.00) looks the way to go in the opener on a big afternoon of racing here. He toughed it out very strongly to win here last time out over 1400m. Pike remains and no reason why he can’t repeat the dose.
Big Danger: 3 North Ridge (Best Odds: $2.50) has been given a four week freshen since recording an impressive win over 1500m here. Little break between runs does leave him suspect fitness wise, but he is in form and in an astute yard.
Roughie: 6 Pushin’ Shapes (Best Odds: $13.00) is a handy three year old taking on the older horses. He is on the back up from last weekend when running midfield in the Raconteur so he is hard fit and though he meets a handy field here, he can measure up.

Race Two (16:34) : Marjorie Charleson Classic 1200m:

Back Me: 3 Cadenza (Best Odds: $26.00) broke through for a well deserved win last time out, sitting on speed and dashing clear when asked. Hasn’t raced in this grade for a while but she gives the impression she is ready.
Big Danger: 2 Wink And A Nod (Best Odds: $2.50) bounced back to her best form with a slogging win last Saturday in the Grandstand Cup. Very adaptable back in trip here, hard fit and now she has found form, she can go right on with it.
Roughie: 4 Zoetomtaya (Best Odds: $26.00) ran over the mile here a fortnight back and stuck on pretty well when fourth to Terror Force. Getting on in years, but is still racing well and she will be strong late, so definitely include her in exotics.

Race Three (17:14) : Amelia Park Beef Handicap (72+) 1500m:

Back Me: 4 All Gee (Best Odds: $2.00) is in flying form at the mine go and comes into this race off the back of a brilliant win last Saturday in the Raconteur where he sat on speed and just kept finding under hard riding. He will measure up here for sure and is a definite winning chance.
Big Danger: 1 Woodbine (Best Odds: $7.50) is the best bred horse in Australia but unfortunately he hasn’t lived up to the pedigree. Still, there was merit in his effort last start over the mile here when third to Terror Force. He is nearing a win and he gets his chance here.
Roughie: 6 Futurism (Best Odds: $14.00) ran over this track/distance last Saturday and stuck to the task pretty well when running just behind a potential stakes horse in Star Exhibit. Much easier here and is a knockout hope.

Race Four (17:54) : Schweppes Melvista Stakes 2200m:

Back Me: Looks a perfect race for 2 Kia Ora Koutou (Best Odds: $2.20). The Victoria Derby placegetter hasn’t quite stamped himself in two runs this time in, but the 2200m and the chance to go whenever he pleases sets himself up for a victory.
Big Danger: 1 Heart Starter (Best Odds: $2.10) is the current form three year old in Perth at the moment and has been dominant in recent times, the latest in the Roberts. I’m not sure he can hold out Kia Ora Koutou again, but he is a major threat.
Roughie: 5 Cappo D’Oro (Best Odds: $31.00) ran over this track/distance last Wednesday against the older horses and ran well despite racing on the fence, which was like quicksand. Harder here, but stable know when to step them up.

Race Five (18:30) : Kirin Megumi WA Oaks 2400m:

Back Me: 2 Arcadia Dream (Best Odds: $1.80) does look the one. There was plenty to like about her win in that lead up race mentioned above and she was dominant, and generally dominant fillies in leads up go on to win the Oaks.
Big Danger: 1 Blackwood (Best Odds: $8.00) has been up longer than Ron Jeremy but is still racing very well and a reasonably high level. She was no match for Arcadia Dream last time out in the Natasha and though I doubt she can turn the tables, she should run another ripper.
Roughie: 9 Press The Petal (Best Odds: $21.00) is a knockout hope. I know she only comes off a last start placing in a maiden, but she powered to the line and I’m sure the stable could have found an essy kill but have instead gone towards here. She creates some interest for me and I wouldn’t be shocked if she won.

Race Six (19:10) : Australian Reliance Handicap (1MW) 1100m:

Back Me: 9 Celebrity Dream (Best Odds: $2.20) looks a standout. This quality galloper for the Grant Williams won her first two starts in high class fashion during the Summer before failing in the Placid Ark. Recent trial was very good and only bad luck will beat her here.
Big Danger: 5 Zonte (Best Odds: $14.00) has been given a 55 day freshen up since running well in a mares race at Pinjarra behind Zoetomtaya in a race where the form does read well. Fitness is the issue, but she should do no work from the gate.
Roughie: 7 Star Glitter (Best Odds: $21.00) has been given a 24 day freshen up since running at the midweeks at this track when running well behind Paddy. Will have to go back from the gate here, but can produce a nice finish when cuddled.

Race Seven (19:50) : Amelia Park Karrakatta Plate 1200m:

Back Me: 1 The River (Best Odds: $3.40) is clearly the best two year old in Perth and should confirm it by winning here. He was brilliant in winning the Perth Stakes off a freshen up since winning the Perth Magic Millions. Normal luck and he blows them away.
Big Danger: 4 Speeding Comet (Best Odds: $8.50) also resumed in the Perth Stakes and closed off hard late to run third to The River. Not sure he can turn the tables, but he is very good and does have Pike on board, which is a good lead.
Roughie: 6 Saul’s Special (Best Odds: $5.50) debuted here three weeks back and was quite impressive in getting the job done. Bit to like about this youngster and I am shocked if he didn’t measure up to an extent.

Race Eight (19:50) : Amelia Park Lamb Sprint (72+) 1200m:

Back Me: 4 Gigante (Best Odds: $6.50) is just bursting to win a race. He hasn’t raced in 42 days since running a close up second to Miki Two Toes, who has run well since. Will do no work from the gate and deserves a win on the board.
Big Danger: 9 Mississipipian (Best Odds: $5.50) resumed over 1100m here a couple of weeks and was awful behind King Of The Palace. The negative is that the vets found nothing. The positive, and it’s a big one, is that Pike remains on, which is a good lead.
Roughie: 6 Conjob (Best Odds: $7.50) is absolutely flying at the moment for Steve Wolfe. This horse comes off a win here two weeks back where he smashed them with a bit in reserve. Just only needs to repeat that effort to go close here.
