2026 Murray Bridge Gold Cup Runner Preview:
1. Air Assault: Air Assault is bursting to win and I think he gets a great chance here. He looked all over the winner in the Balaklava Cup last time out but just couldn’t quite get past Sav On Ice, who was too tough from on speed and found. Hard fit, good racing style, he takes beating.
2. St Lawrence: St Lawrence commands respect. He was an impressive winner at Flemington last time and yes, the pattern was in his corner but even allowing for that, he was dominant in a field which was stronger than this, so he is a clear threat.
3. Sav On Ice: He looked cast but he was outstanding in the Balaklava Cup and does command respect. But, he’s well found.
4. Bootlegger: Never a factor at Balaklava. Capable horse when right, but he goes through to the keeper.
5. Sir Kingsford: I think he’ll lead and roll on speed, but just not sure he is sharp enough for these.
6. Williamsburg: Sneaky good late in the Balaklava Cup but he’s such a hard horse to follow and trust with confidence.
7. Bamyan Buddha: Had the A1 run in the Balaklava Cup and battled on really well. Harder run this time around, I’m against.
8. Cicala: Had every possible in the Balaklava Cup. Nightmare draw here…why she is favourite? She should be three/four times the price she is.
9. I Catchem Fox: Battled on really well at Balaklava and looks set for this race…just think he lacks the class/quality.
10. Snoopy Now: Been up longer than Ron Jeremy but is an honest animal that will keep chipping away. One for exotics.
11. Snow Patrol: He looks outclassed.
12. Leveraged Buyout: He should be $101+, not $21.
13. Crimson Vine: Freshened up since a run over 2400m. Not for me here.
14. Darknconfidential: Darknconfidential steps up to the mile after resuming over 1250m at Morphettville Parks two weeks ago. He got back off speed, was beaten for early pace, and while he was never a winning threat, he kept chasing and finding the line. Good upside to come, not dismissing.
15. Stirrup Cup: Hit and miss but when right, he’s capable and can launch late. One for wider exotics.
16. Scandalize: Just looks like he hasn’t quite come up this prep.
17. Alpine Flyer (First Emergency): Sneaky good in the Balaklava Cup and maps to do no work. Could pinch first four at a big price.
18. Florey (Second Emergency): Has a sense of timing but think she needs it easier.
