Bendigo will host a stand alone Saturday program this weekend, highlighted by a couple of $150,000 Listed events, the Yalumba Golden Mile (1600m) and the Woodside Park Bendigo Guineas (1600m). The weather is fine, the track is good (3) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race One (1:00pm) : 3BO Trophy (78) 1300m: Form Guide

Back Me: On paper, especially from gate 20, it doesn’t look his race, but I am going to take a chance with Sir Berus (Best Odds: $31.00). He is making his debut for Colin Little after formerly being with Joe Pride. His jump out at Caulfield recently was too good to ignore, so at the price, I am going with him each way.
Big Danger: Trevinder (Best Odds: $10.00) didn’t have the best of luck last time out at the Valley, getting stuck three wide throughout yet he still went to the line well when a close up fourth to Stratcombe. Has to rise in weight here, but senior rider back aboard and there doesn’t seem to be much speed around him, so I think Chris Symons could well get over from the gate without too much trouble.
Roughie: The trip away and a change of scenery could spark Black Revolver (Best Odds: $7.50) into some decent form. He pulled up with the thumps last time out when tenth to Devnshire Duke at Rosehill. His run prior to that at Randwick behind Telepathic was solid, so if he brings any of his best form, he’d give this a serious shake.

Race Two (1:35pm) : TROA Handicap (84) 1100m: Form Guide

Back Me: Going again for some value, this time in the shape of Pretty Possum (Best Odds: $26.00). She is flying at the moment for Russell Osbourne, winning two on the trot at Wagga and Kilmore respectively before going to the Valley and trying her heart out on speed when third to Override. Meets the winner 2kg better off and she does have an excellent record at the track. Each way all day.
Big Danger: Grane (Best Odds: $9.00) is bursting to win a race, but he just keeps bumping into one or two better on the day, and that’s happened at his past couple of outings, firstly behind the above average Nordic Empire before running third to The Bowler and Ventic. He’ll get a cheap run from the good draw and will be powering home at the end when a few of these will be stopping.
Roughie: Agent (Best Odds: $9.50) worked home strongly in a good race on Canberra Cup Day, running fourth to Diamond Oasis after being tardy away and forced to sit near last in the run. He can be hard to trust as a punter, but he looks to get his chance here from the good gate with the claim for Dylan Dunn.

Race Three (2:10pm) : Sutherland Property Handicap (70) 1000m: Form Guide

Back Me: Bella Capri (Best Odds: $5.00) trialled really well at Cranbourne before backing up a few days later at the Valley and hitting the line powerfully to grab victory. That was a really pleasing return from her, and I think she is better when ridden a touch more quietly, and I think that’s what will occur from the gate here. Looks hard to beat here IMO.
Big Danger: Mihany (Best Odds: $6.00) drops back significantly in grade to kick off his Autumn prep after contesting Stakes races during the Spring, with formlines including the likes of Almalad and Bondeiger. Jump outs have been okay, draws well and has the class factor on his side.
Roughie: Rose Dancer (Best Odds: $21.00) was backed off the map when winning here first up before going to Sandown and running on strongly until the final 75m when fifth to See Me Flash. There does look to be good upside with her, and there will be a good speed for her to sit off and charge late.

Race Four (2:50pm) : UAM Pty Ltd VOBIS Gold Rush 1000m: Form Guide

Back Me: The drop back in grade and a little freshen up should see Miss Gidget (Best Odds: $4.80) prove hard to beat here. She contested the Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) and she was far from disgraced when ninth to Pride Of Dubai, beaten six lengths after a strong second to Fontiton in the Prelude. She’s the benchmark juvenile in Melbourne, so a repeat of that Prelude run, and Miss Gidget should go very close to winning here.
Big Danger: Belhamage (Best Odds: $6.50) comes back to Melbourne after running a close second to Slipper contender Haybah in the Cinderella Stakes (1050m). She was given a perfect ride by Gauci, but she just couldn’t quite fend off Haybah, who also has Fontiton form. She’ll make her own luck on speed here and prove tough to run down.
Roughie: Destiny’s Reward (Best Odds: $26.00) is trained on the track by Brian Gentle and the filly did a great job to lead throughout on debut here and win before going to the Valley and working home well late when fourth to Our Vidia. She has shown in two runs that she can be versatile, and she has the home ground advantage here, which is a definite plus with the two year olds.

Race Five (3:30pm) : Jayco Stayers Challenge Final 2400m: Form Guide

Back Me: Looks a lovely race for Four Carat (Best Odds: $3.30). Made his Melbourne debut over this distance at Sandown and really attacked the line with purpose when second to Refectory, who went on to perform in the Adelaide Cup. This race in recent years has been won by the best horse in the race, and he clearly looks that.
Big Danger: Stellarized (Best Odds: $7.00) might not win pretty, but he has won his past two in good, tough fashion, grinding it out hard while his rivals cave in. Admittedly the two wins have been against inferior opposition to what he faces here, but he is only fourth up here, so there should be upside and he gets the services of recent Group l winning rider Linda Meech.
Roughie: The drop in weight and hopefully a softer trip could see Verification (Best Odds: $26.00) be somewhere in the money. He did a stack of work last time out at Geelong, sitting three deep no cover for the entire with 59.5kg yet still toughed it out well to finish seventh, beaten 2.6L. Not sure if he runs a strong 2400m, but minimum weight and a soft trip could see him do that.

Race Six (4:10pm) : Catanach’s Jewellers Bendigo Gold Bracelet 1400m: Form Guide

Back Me: Nadeem Lass (Best Odds: $19.00) deserves to win a feature race, and she gets her chance here. She stuck to the task very strongly last time out at Flemington in the Tressady Stakes (1400m) when third to Madam Gangster, and I think she was ridden a touch too close to the speed, so the effort was full of merit. Max Allen knows the mare very well. He’ll get her back with cover and look to blouse them late.
Big Danger: I was really surprised Soosa Rama (Best Odds: $5.50) went out at around $7 last time out on Echuca Cup Day. She duly won, aided by a gun rider from Chad Schofield. Her two runs prior to that were excellent behind Scarlett Billows and Written, so she has the right formlines on the board and Mark Zahra takes back the ride, and he knows the mare very well.
Roughie: A hot speed will also suit Winta Chiller (Best Odds: $17.00), who has savaged the line at her past two outings, starting off with a close fourth in the Sale Quality (1205m) followed by a fourth to Tycoon Tara in the Premier Signs (1400m). If she can get luck from the tricky draw, possibly on the back of Nadeem Lass, she is a definite chance.

Race Seven (4:50pm) : Yalumba Golden Mile 1600m: Form Guide

Back Me: Best bet on the program for mine in Akavoroun (Best Odds: $5.00). Outstanding first up run when fourth to Hard Stride before going to a Stakes race at Flemington and running a shocker when second last to Amorino, who has franked the form since. I’ll put that down to an off day at work. Last time she was at 1600m on a big track he was a length off Trust In A Gust in the Toorak. If Michelle Payne can overcome the draw, his class should get him home.
Big Danger: Dylanson (Best Odds: $8.00) was performing okay over the staying trips in Adelaide before Phillip Stokes sent the horse back to the mile and it resulted in a brilliant Stakes win on Adelaide Cup Day, beating home Mouro. Despite being a last start Listed winner, he is still on the minimum. Looks extremely well placed.
Roughie: Don’t be surprised to see Gris Caro (Best Odds: $17.00) run a cheeky race here first up. He was due to run in the Caulfield Cup in the Spring but was injured in the week leading up. Hasn’t trialled publicly for his return to racing, but he does perform well fresh and I like the fact that Jake Stephens has sent him interstate for his resumption.

Race Eight (5:30pm) : Woodside Park Bendigo Guineas 1400m: Form Guide

Back Me: Going to stick solid with Fast Cash (Best Odds: $8.00). His run in the Zeditave Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield was strong behind Rommel given he was wide and back in a slowly run race yet he made up significant ground late. Up to 1400m suits, he is fitter and he did run very well in his lone run on the track early on in his career. He has dodged the hard races, has the fresh legs, looks hard to beat.
Big Danger: Phillip Stokes won at this meeting last year with Lucky Symbol and he has a live chance in 2015 thanks to Eclair Choice, (Best Odds: $10.00)  who went enormous first up on Adelaide Cup Day, shouldering 59.5kg, sitting three deep no cover, cruising to the lead in the straight before being grabbed in the final couple of strides. He has some very good formlines back home, including runs behind Lord Aspen and the above average Alcobro. Has a stack of upside and the trainer has a lethal winning record when travelling.
Roughie: Liberation (Best Odds: $19.00) is the very interesting runner. He is still a colt, but if he was gelded, he’d probably be a definite Group horse, maybe even Group l contender, based on his efforts early on in the Spring. The ability was there, but he was an absolute fruit loop in the head and had no idea what the racing game was about. Has been given a good spell, jump outs have been pleasing, and I like the fact he runs in this first up, an indication Gai has specifically targeted this race.

Race Nine (6:05pm) : #Hashtag Handicap (90) 1400m: Form Guide

Back Me: Longeron (Best Odds: $10.00) on top for me in the last. He performed well during the Spring, with the highlight being a win over 2000m at Caulfield. Recent jump outs have been very sharp, and I am sure he’ll run well fresh, especially from the good draw and on a track he has won on in the past.
Big Danger: Written Up (Best Odds: $9.00) was desperately unlucky not to win first up at the Valley given he was stuck wide with no cover throughout. He still had the audacity to attack the line and just fail to pick up Stratcombe, who had an easier run. Jamie Mott gets back on, and he steered the horse to win the Bendigo Guineas last year, as well as winning on a couple of other occasions.
Roughie: The two stayers to watch here fresh are Pinstripe Lane (Best Odds: $101.00) and Wrotham Heath. Both are resuming from the Spring, they have looked good in jump outs/trials, both can run well first up and they do appear to represent great value.
