The Golden Rose winner, Hallowed Crown is second in the market at $5.50 and his most recent trial and class suggest he can win this first up.
Two runners that have had first up runs sit equal third in the betting at $6.00. Scissor Kick returned with a fantastic win first up in the Eskimo Prince Stakes and has a definite chance in this race having won his only start second up. He probably should have won the Golden Rose where he finished a very unlucky second to Hallowed Crown. Panzer Division’s return wasn’t quite as impressive but second up now and out to 1400m gives him a serious chance.
Delectation also comes out of the Eskimo Prince where he looked the winner before throwing it away at 200m mark when he seemed to shift in and is an $8.50 chance. This is his first time up to 1400m and that is the obvious query around him.
The interesting runner in the race is Sweynesse, who is also a $8.50 chance. Last time he ran at 1400m he was first up and ran over the top of boom filly First Seal albeit on a heavy track. In his last start last year he ran a cracker in the Cox Plate even though he finished 8th he was only beaten 1.85L. If he is tuned up and ready for this he can give this a big shake up.
Bookies are having a hard time with this open field and eight runners sit at $11 or below.
