The Queensland government has called for an audit of Racing Queensland Limited as it continues its overhaul of the state’s racing administration.
The move comes just days after four senior executives of RQL resigned following Saturday’s election win by the Liberal National Party.
Deputy premier and minister for racing, Jeff Seeney, says he wants the spending of racing industry funds to be more transparent.
“I’ve written to the auditor general expressing the government’s primary concern that spending of racing industry funds should be open and fully accountable and that the integrity of the racing industry and its funding should be preserved,” Seeney said.
“I’ve also asked the department to act quickly under powers of the Racing Act to report on the suitability of Racing Queensland as a control body to manage our racing codes.
“For too long in Queensland people who love racing and many of those whose livelihoods depend on it have been ignored and suppressed.”
On Monday, RQL chief executive Malcolm Tuttle, Jamie Orchard (director of integrity operations), Paul Brennan (director of product development) and Shara Reid (senior corporate counsel/company secretary) quit the governing body.
