Bargain buy galloper Ideal Position provided part-time country trainer Jeff Brasch with his first city winner at Rosehill on Saturday.
And on Sunday, Brasch will head back to where it all started for Ideal Position 12 months ago.
“I keep about eight to 10 horses in work and I’ve got one in at the non-TAB meeting at Gulgong tomorrow so I’ll be up there for that,” Mudgee-based Brasch said.
“His name is Acazano and it’s the exact same meeting that this horse (Ideal Position) won his maiden at last year. He started off at a non-TAB and has obviously progressed very nicely.”
Ideal Position was bought as a tried horse for just $1100 last year and the gelding’s 1-1/2-length victory in Saturday’s Accountability Recruitment Handicap (1400m) took his earnings to more than $110,000.
“He’s a great horse. He tries hard all the time and has never let us down yet,” Brasch said.
Ideal Position notched his eighth win from just 15 starts and was ridden by leading bush jockey Greg Ryan who will also be in action at Gulgong on Sunday.
Brasch, who works as a stud manager for Guntawang Stud in Mudgee as well as training a small team, hopes to now raise the bar for the progressive Ideal Position.
“I’d like to see how he goes and maybe have a crack at the Civic Stakes,” Brasch said.
“He loves the 1400 metres and he proved today that the big track will suit him.”
The Listed Civic Stakes is at Rosehill on June 30.
“I’ve never had a stakes runner and I actually can’t recall having had a Saturday runner in town,” Brasch said.
“This is my first city winner. It’s pretty exciting.”
