Reaching 100 is worthy of a message from the Queen and it seems it’s no different in the thoroughbred world.
Black Caviar was among the first to honour Linda Meech as she brought up a century of winners at Wodonga on Tuesday.
Meech is a stalwart of the Peter Moody stable and close to the equine star who will race in front of the real Queen in England on Saturday.
“Linda Meech has ridden me in track work for @MoodyRacing. One of the rare few. Congrats Linda on your milestone of 100 winners today,” Black Caviar tweeted.
Meech’s win on Lingo for trainers Mat Ellerton and Simon Zahra brought up her 96th win in Victoria this season which has also reaped four interstate successes.
She is now is on target to surpass her previous season’s best of 111 reached in 2008/09.
Her tally places her fourth on the state’s premiership behind Craig Newitt (144), Dean Yendall (122) and Brad Rawiller (115).
Meech is the only female rider to occupy a top 20 position on the nationwide premiership table, also headed by Newitt with 160 winners.
The victory marked the third time in four years Meech had ridden 100 winners including 2009/10 when she received the inaugural Neville Wilson for the most winners in the Victorian country area.
The highlight of her season came last month when she won the Listed Laelia Stakes (1600m) at Morphettville on the unbeaten Peter Morgan-trained filly Lucky Penny.
