Sydney trainer Joe Pride has claimed back-to-back wins in the Takeover Target Stakes at Gosford with See The World emulating Title in the Listed sprint.
Christian Reith brought See The World ($5) down the outside late to claim the 1200m feature by a neck from Melbourne visitor Beyond Pardon ($6).
Sutton Queen ($15) was another half head third with favourite Alberton Park (2.70) sixth.
It was a welcome return to the track for Reith who earned himself a three-week careless riding suspension for his last winning ride on See The World.
“I could have gone inside but he didn’t want to go there,” Reith said.
“He is back in great form.
“Last time I rode him I got three weeks but I didn’t have anyone outside me to worry about today.”
Pride said the slow (6) track was to See The World’s advantage and he would consider a trip to next month’s Ramornie Handicap at Grafton if the wet weather continued.
“He is not the best of travellers but if the track was wet I would consider the Ramornie,” he said.
“He had things his way today.
“It was a small field. He wouldn’t have been able to go around them if it wasn’t.
“It was no surprise to see him in the money.”
Formerly known as the Pacesetter Stakes, the race was renamed in honour of the internationally acclaimed sprinter Takeover Target who won the sprint in 2004.
Second that year was Mustard who led the field out before galloping down the straight in front of his home town crowd with Rodney Quinn aboard.
The John McNair-trained Mustard was only retired last month.
