The Gai Waterhouse trained Hippopus is the forgotten horse in the Doomben Cup, with punters from online bookmaker sportsbet so far deserting the three-year-old.
There has been little support for Hippopus, who won the VRC St Leger at his last outing. Hippopus is currently at $9.00, with Lights Of Heaven ($3.60) and Foreteller ($4.00) battling for favouritism.
Interestingly, there has been support at long odds for Victorian stayer Zabeelionaire, who’s at $34. Manighar, who disappointed during the Sydney autumn carnival, has also had backing and firmed from $11 into $9.00.
“Foreteller has been one of the best backed runners, but there has been very little support for Hippopus. He looks a nice type, but punters may be keeping their money for the Queensland Derby, which looks an ideal race for the three-year-old,” sportsbet.com.au’s Ben Hawes said.
