Adam Page gives us his brief early look at Saturday’s TJ Smith Stakes at Randwick racecourse. View his tips and selections.
There are some horses in this race that are flying at the moment eg Hinchinbrook and Crystal Lily, but they keep on bumping into the great mare Black Caviar. The champion is unbeaten and will remain unbeaten after this race also. Her work racing the Sydney way has been very good and only bad luck can stop her.
I’ll put in Shoot Out for second. He is a star and will win the big races in Brisbane during the Winter Carnival. He looked very sharp in a recent barrier trial and I can tell you he is wound up for a big first up effort. He’ll definitely finish top three.
Crystal Lily is a gem and should be a multiple group one winner except that she squares off against Black Caviar. She’ll sit on the speed and give her all as she has done at her past two against the worlds best horse.
Hinchinbrook rattled home in the William Reid and a return to Randwick should spark some improvement. Rawiller sticks and he is drawn to get a cushy run off the pace. Look for him to finish off the race well.
I’m happy to leave Hay List because there is obviously some niggling problem with him because he should have bolted in the Challenge Stakes yet he fell in. He is drawn wide and I can’t see him getting close to Black Caviar.
