Eight races will be run and won at Belmotn this Saturday for Beaufine Stakes Day. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out six metres for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (14:19) Magic Millions Plate 1000m
2 Market Ruler (Bet Now: $1.40) should be putting this field away. Has won her past two in pretty impressive fashion, the latest coming at this track/distance a fortnight back when leading all the way and winning impressively. Not that much depth this time around, should hold a forward spot from the gate and prove hard to run down.
7 Baron Bostock (Bet Now: $4.60) is an Ouqba gelding on debut for the Dan Morton team. This bloke has had a couple of preps without racing, with two trials. Won a trial back in late March before a couple of months off and winning well here last week. Looks above average and I think he’ll go well here on debut.
5 Essential Spice (Bet Now: $7.50) is a Gingerbread Man filly for Team Pearce who ran a solid second on debut Market Ruler in that race mentioned above. Beaten quite comprehensively but far from disgraced behind an above average type. If she is able to sit closer from the draw, she can get closer to Market Ruler…not sure she can win though.
Race 2. (14:59) Tabtouch Handicap (1MW) 1000m
I’d love to see 5 Undisclosed (Bet Now: $3.60) jump and run. They had been riding her cold in recent times, and she had been working home well. But it was pleasing to see her on speed last time out down the Pinjarra straight. She held the lead on the outside rail and was far too good for them. If she jumps and leads, she’ll give a great sight.
8 Regal Moon (Bet Now: $3.30) is on the quick back up for the Williams camp after racing at Northam on Monday over 1300m where Pike gave the mare a peach of a ride just off the speed and he couldn’t have done anything more, but the horse just couldn’t get past a quality type in Great Again. Quick back up a good lead and Pike remains on.
1 Ambiente (Bet Now: $9.50) is a Liz Strempel trained gelding that resumes. He hasn’t raced since December 23 where he finished down the track at Ascot behind Settler’s Creek. Resumes here with no trials but is two for two when produced fresh and overall, this isn’t a strong race, so I’m inclined to include him.
Race 3. (15:39) Marina East Waterfront Aparrments By Blackburne Handicap (78+) 2000m
Best race on the program for sure. 1 Galaxy Star (Bet Now: $1.60) is indeed a star and I’m very keen to see her out to the ten furlongs for the first time. She has been outstanding over the 1400m-1600m trips this time in, and has clearly showed signs she would eat up further, and she gets it here. Takes on a couple of ripping types, but she’s a star.
4 Missile Launch (Bet Now: $4.20) is going in near career best form at the moment for the Vaughn Sigley team. Three weeks between runs since winning over 1800m at Ascot where he lumped the weight and though strongly challenged, he held them off and on the line, he was getting away. He’ll have no trouble with 2000m, hard fit, in form…he’s likeable.
10 Very Tempting (Bet Now: $51.00) is a handy mare for Adam Durrant who resumed in the Missile Launch race mentioned above. She was well backed at odds that afternoon but after receiving a nice sit just off the speed, she couldn’t come on at all and in the end was most disappointing. If she brings her best, she’s a definite place chance.
Race 4. (16:19) Amelia Park Lamb Handicap (72+) 1600m
Forgive a horse for a poor run so I’ll do that with 12 Kokopu (Bet Now: $16.00). He won his first two starts over here in electric fashion before racing at this track a fortnight back and running a shocker behind Enticing Star, sitting out the back all the way and not coming on. He’s better than that, so give him another look.
7 Broker (Bet Now: $4.20) comes back in trip and I think that’s the right call. They dipped their toe at 1800m three weeks back and he just didn’t run the trip out behind Missile Launch. Fresh, back to the mile, he should get a lovely run just off the pace and his form prior does read quite well for a race of this nature.
I think 11 By Decree (Bet Now: $23.00) can run a race at odds. She resumed in the Enticing Star race mentioned above where she had three wide cover throughout and while she was never going to win, she worked home pretty well. Is a winner second up and has a fab record at the mile, so I wouldn’t rule her out.
Race 5. (16:55) Lavazza Plate 1400m
7 Necklet (Bet Now: $2.60) does look one of the hardest to beat. Fred Kersley trains this filly, who is four weeks between runs since racing over 1400m at Ascot where she had the 1/1 sit before Kirby eased her out and she proved too good for an above average filly in Pearls And Prawns. Good fresh horse, maps well, she’ll do me.
2 Arcadia Prince (Bet Now: $5.00) is definitely looking for the seven furlongs. He needed every bit of the 1300m trip to get the win here two weeks ago. He looked the winner but he doesn’t have that ping. He toughed it out and got the bob in right on the peg. I think with a cold steer from the gate, he’ll be more effective.
11 Dickoletto (Bet Now: $23.00) is the interesting one. How good is he? Well he’s two for two and as they say, beware the unbeaten horse, because we don’t know how good they are until they are beaten. Two run Summer prep was faultless, tipped out, been given a good break and his trial win here last week was outstanding.
Race 6. (17:30) Beaufine Stakes 1000m
If we get each way odds, I’ll definitely have something on 6 Mr Motown (Bet Now: $9.00). He is five weeks between runs since winning over 1100m at Ascot, beating home Galaxy Star, and she is being touted as a future Stakes winner. That form reads so well for this, he’s a good fresh horse, he draws to sit off a good speed and have last say.
1 Durendal (Bet Now: $3.50) is the class of the field but gee you have to wind back the clock a fair to see when he last won. In saying that, this is the easiest race he has contested for some time so he gets a great chance. Comes through the strong form reference of the Roma Cup when third behind stablemates Rock Magic and Battle Hero. 1000m looks his go…just has to carry the weight and show that he wants to win.
5 It’s It (Bet Now: $16.00) was the rank outsider when resuming in the Roma Cup three weeks ago. He kept kicking up under Great Shot, which was never going to work, and he eventually dropped out. I don’t think he’ll have to do as much work this time around and I can find a spot for him in multiples for sure.
Race 7. (18:05) Heineken 3 Handicap (1MW) 1400m
Great to see 2 Awaken (Bet Now: $5.50) back at the races. High quality mare for Team Williams that hasn’t raced since March last year, where she scored a dominant win in the Thousand Guineas at Ascot. Has clearly had her issues but no denying she’s clearly the best horse in the race, and her trials leading in have been good.
1 Vital Silver (Bet Now: $3.80) rises in depth and grade but he’s always been considered this kind of horse. Looked thrown in last time out in the Provincial Final and ran accordingly, sitting on speed and absolutely bolting in under Jarrad Noske. Awkward draw, but gets the claim for Tayla Stone, has upside and a touch of brilliance.
7 Athlete (Bet Now: $21.00) takes on the older horses after resuming over 1300m here a fortnight back against the three year olds where he got a mile back in the run but worked to the line quite well late in the piece behind a good one in Arcadia Prince. Interesting that he runs here and not the three year old race. That aside, he’s a chance.
Race 8. (18:40) Rentokil Initial Handicap (66+) 1200m
Happy to be with 13 Stageman (Bet Now: $1.50) in the get out. He ran over 1000m here a fortnight back where he was a hard favourite and under a confident ride from Pike, his class rose to the occasion and showed an electric turn of foot to get the job done. Up to 1200m looks perfect and he still has improvement to come condition wise. Normal luck and he wins.
2 River Dance (Bet Now: $8.50) is an absolute beauty for Fenella Martin. Resumed at this track/distance two weeks ago where he was at good odds and defied that with a ripping second behind a future star of WA racing, Enticing Star. Beaten convincingly, but beat the rest comfortably. Overcomes the awkward draw and he’ll run well again.
15 Kingdom And Empire (Bet Now: $67.00) is a son of Pitleco that resumes for Sharon Miller. He isn’t the most reliable horse I’ve come across but the set up for his resumption is interesting. First up at 1200m, no trials, resumes in town…it’s unlike the stable, and the horse can sprint well fresh. I’d maybe have something on for the place.
