Nine races will be run and won at Doomben this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (11:48) SKY RACING HCP 1200m
1 Nettuno (Bet Now: $1.40) looks the winner barring bad luck. Tony Gollan trained juvenile that debuted over 1000m at the Sunny Coast where he was odds on and made an absolute mess of them without being fully extended. His last 200m was the best of the race and the second best of the meeting. He’s a good one and confident he makes it 2/2.
5 Titian Goddess (Bet Now: $8.00) is a filly that I think has ability. Debuted over 1050m here two weeks ago where she worked to the line pretty well but was clearly no match for a quality horse in Steady Ready. Like her up to 1200m and the depth, as a whole, isn’t overly strong.
8 Birdonawing (Bet Now: $9.50) gets the kind map and has the Annabel Neasham polish. Resumed in the Black Opal Preview where she had the suck run behind the speed and was there to threaten but couldn’t quite finish it off behind Sweet Ride. Fresh legs and back to this level, she can run an improved race.
Race 2. (12:23) BRC CARNIVAL PLUS M'SHIP (C6) 1615m
9 Knight Mariner (Bet Now: $2.45) is getting close to D-Day I feel. Like most, was keen on his chances when racing at this track/distance two weeks ago. Held up when wanting to get clear but on the line, he was safely held by Slow Hands, who was given a peach by Wilson-Taylor. Knocking on the door to win, but he is nearing D-Day.
1 Slow Hands (Bet Now: $10.0) is a beauty for Kelly Schweida. Jury was out on him but he made amends with a dominant win at this track/distance, with Wilson-Taylor, again, pulling his rivals pants down. He can be a hard horse to follow and trust, but he can certainly go on with it.
7 Texas Storm (Bet Now: $31.00) is around a month between runs since racing over 1500m at Ipswich where he got a tad keen in the run and I think it took away something from his finale behind Rhyme Time, who won on Monday, so the form reads well and his prior efforts were good enough to command respect here.
Race 3. (12:58) D 'DOUBLE DEE' DAWSON F'WELL 1615m
2 Kiss My Millo (Bet Now: $15.00) is worth an each way speck. Loved the way he attacked the line to win two back at the Gold Coast before going to Ipswich when a tad further back than expected but was good late when third to Crymenotears. Gets in well after the claim and hopefully can use the inside gate to advantage.
10 Teranga (Bet Now: $4.50) looks a filly with talent and and is very well in at the weights after the claim. Debut win was strong at the Gold Coast. Stable then went to Eagle Farm and she was okay late against the race shape behind You Are Persistent. Like her up to the mile, soft draw, hard to beat.
3 Crack Of Doom (Bet Now: $13.00), I think, will be okay at the mile. Ran over 1000m two back at Ipswich against the older horses and was good late behind the in form Mort Doyle. He then went to 1350m and was okay late when fourth to Star Gamble. Off those two runs, I think the mile will be okay.
Race 4. (13:33) CASCADE (BM85) 2020m
7 Youngblood (Bet Now: $14.00) should eat up the 2000m here. I thought he was one of the runs of the day three weeks ago at the Gold Coast, sitting three and four wide no cover for the trip and fought on bravely when a close up fifth to Dune Forty Five. Proven at the trip, upside to come, if last run hasn’t busted him, he’ll take beating.
4 Traduce (Bet Now: $7.50) is a talented stayer for Maryann Brosnan that comes here several weeks between wins since class came to the fore and it got him home at the Sunny Coast, also helped by a peach steer from Jaden Lloyd. Creeping up in the relative weights but hard to knock the way he’s going.
14 Pleased (Bet Now: $67.00) should appreciate the rise in trip for Stephen Lee. Was several weeks between runs when racing over the mile here two weeks back and worked to the line pretty well without threatening behind Slow Hands. Like him up in distance with the run under the belt. Knockout hope.
Race 5. (14:08) CALEB TRUST HCP 1050m
12 Amity Gal (Bet Now: $6.50) should be suited back to 1050m. David Vandyke trained filly that ran over 1200m on her home track at the Sunny Coast last time when copping pressure on speed but despite that, she gave a good kick and looked home, but was nabbed late. Back in trip, she’s hard fit and in the right camp.
7 Putontheredlight (Bet Now: $3.40) is a talented filly that resumes for Tony Gollan. Hasn’t raced since the Summer Carnival here when a closing second in the Mode Plate behind another quality filly, Rhapsody Rose. The gate likely means she’ll be last in the run and be saved for one crack at them, but she’s capable.
16 In The Blink (Bet Now: $18.00) rises straight to metro grade for Kris Lees but she’s a filly with upside and talent. Knuckled down strongly to break her maiden status at Taree last time out, with the race rating okay for the meeting. Right down in the weights, she’s a knockout chance.
Race 6. (14:47) PRIVATE SCHOOLS GUIDE (BM78) 1350m
17 Jack The Lad (Bet Now: $11.00) on top. Chris Waller trained gelding that resumes, having not raced since December 15 at Ipswich when a solif fourth in a hot Class 5 won by the Stakes performed See Marie. Liked his Gold Coast trial, he can sprint well fresh and stable is absolutely flying in QLD.
6 Lunakorn (Bet Now: $14.00) has the talent to beat these. Just not 100% sure where she is at. Resumed with a down the track effort in the Triscay at Randwick before racing here two weeks ago when back in the run and was pretty good late behind Ulysses. Fitter, she can take this out.
7 Westlink (Bet Now: $41.00) is a first four threat. Ran in the Ulysses race from two weeks back where he was near the speed and there to threaten but couldn’t quite finish it off behind the Tony Gollan runner. That was a strong 85. Back to 78 level, I think he appeals against this lot.
Race 7. (15:27) DELIVERINGDENTAL.COM.AU (BM72) 1200m
9 Go Wandji (Bet Now: $2.00) is a very progressive animal for Tom Dougall that is several weeks between runs since sharing the spoils with Winside when winning fresh at Toowoomba. Is he a local that can go through the grades and progress to a Stradbroke? I wouldn’t say no. Hard to beat here.
12 Aidensfield (Bet Now: $4.60) is knocking on the door to win. She ran over this track/distance two weeks ago where she looked a good thing on paper and was travelling in the run. Looked the winner when she presented but she just had no answers for Smart Image. She’s becoming costly, but has to be respected here.
18 Dixon Bay (Bet Now: $20.00) is one for exotics. Resumed over this trip at the Gold Coast three weeks back where he was given a peach by KWT and was there to win. Condition just ran out late when third to High Cost. Maps well, down in the weights and has good upside to come.
Race 8. (16:07) TAB VENUE MODE QLTY 1350m
15 Ulysses (Bet Now: $4.20) has found winning form. I think he can go on with it. He’s had a couple of runs for the camp, the latest being two weeks ago at this track/distance when back near last in the run but came with a well timed finale under Maloney to score. Has to be hard to beat here.
12 Vinco (Bet Now: $6.50) is five weeks between runs for Tony Gollan since racing at Toowoomba where he was tucked in behind the good speed and knuckled down strongly late to score a narrow but impressive win. He should get a lovely run in transit and take beating against this lot.
3 London Banker (Bet Now: $26.00) is a quality animal for Kelly Schweida that resumes. He really was one of the finds of the Winter/Spring last time in, winning four races on the bounce. Unbeaten at Doomben, he can sprint well fresh and brings the different form. He’ll be strong late.
Race 9. (16:43) XXXX DRY HCP (C6) 1200m
10 Smart Image… (Bet Now: $3.20) if he can reproduce anything similar to what he did two weeks ago, he’ll win again. I didn’t have him down as a wet tracker but he swam through the Soft7 and made an absolute mess of them in a dominant win. If he can build off that, or at least hold that, he’ll win again.
4 Cardiff (Bet Now: $8.50) is a query at six furlongs but maps to get the A1 run in transit. Ran over 1050m here two weeks ago where he tried hard from off the speed but couldn’t quite finish it off when third to Lyrical Girl. Last bit will test, but he’s the map horse to get every chance.
14 Shamaton (Bet Now: $8.50) can be an improver. Paraded like he would need the run when resuming two weeks back here over 1050m and that’s how he raced. There to threaten 250m out but condition just gave way behind Lyrical Girl. Unknown at 1200m, but in the leading local camp, so can’t dismiss.
