A nine event meeting has been assembled for Eagle Farm on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out 1.5 metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (13:18) Tab Plate (c3) 1000m
6 Pull Anchor (Bet Now: $8.50) is a talented mare for Tony Gollan that resumes. This girl did win when last in work, but more often than not, kept finding one better on the day. She’s pretty reliable and is suited at Class 3 level, but has trialled up nicely in readiness for her return. She’ll do me.
Team Freedman rarely get it wrong when they bring one up from Sydney and suspect that continues with 8 Head On Up (Bet Now: $5.00). She ran at the Doomben midweeks when on speed throughout and looked the winner when presented. Couldn’t quite finish it off and had to settle for a second to Hidden Eyes. Hard to beat I’d suggest.
3 Shamaton (Bet Now: $4.50) should improve second up for Tony Gollan. Resumed at the midweeks at Doomben where he got a fair way back in the run but worked to the line pretty well late in a good return when third to Hidden Eyes, a proven city performer. Fast run 1000m, bigger track, looks a good recipe for him.
Race 2. (13:53) Widden Basil Nolan Jr 2yo Plte 1000m
1 Golden Artie (Bet Now: $4.00) is a son of Artie Schiller on debut for Team Guy. He has had two trials to get ready for start one and each time, he has won, won impressively. Latest came last week at the Gold Coast when on speed before being clicked up late and drawing clear, ears pricked, suggesting there is more under the bonnet. Leading chance.
3 Palazzo Spirit (Bet Now: $1.75) is an O’Dea/Hoysted trained juvenile that has looked quite sharp at the trials. Latest trial was last Tuesday at Doomben when leading throughout and gee he moved well in a lovely piece of work from the front. Above average, should lead and prove hard to run down.
2 Mishani Warfare (Bet Now: $4.60) has the race experience under the belt, which should hold him in good stead for this. Debuted two weeks ago in the Pat O’Shea at Toowoomba. He looked the winner when presented at the top of the straight but couldn’t finish it off when a narrow second. Winning threat for sure.
Race 3. (14:28) Lexus 2yo Plate 1000m
9 Shalook (Bet Now: $4.40) for me. Kacy Fogden trained filly that is having start one off the back of a trial at Doomben where she looked to move quite well under Maloney in a good piece of work, finishing a narrow second. Has a soft gate to use and should prove hard to beat.
(Bet Now: $4.80) is a More Than Ready filly on debut for Kelly Schweida and she has been the subject of good early support. Just one quiet trial at the Sunny Coast to get ready but since then, the gear change of Blinkers on has been added, so she must have done something sharp at home with them on. Watch and see if that market push is sustained.
3 Possover (Bet Now: $9.50) is a daughter of Power for Tony Webb that was unwanted in betting when debuting in the Pat O’Shea but I thought she ran a credible from off the speed when third to Menari Magic. Needs to improve to win given there are some likely types here, but has that race experience.
Race 4. (15:03) All Stone Specialists Hcp 1000m
4 Stellar Magic (Bet Now: $4.20) is a quality filly for the O’Dea/Hoysted camp that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since the Carter Stakes during the Winter Carnival when finding the 1200m a bridge too far behind Rhapsody Rose. Looks to have trialled up really well to get ready with two under the belt, an idea grounding for this.
6 Fetch (Bet Now: $3.90) looks to have her share of talent. Stablemate of Stellar Magic that resumes after a debut win at Grafton back in August where she was expected to make a mess of them and duly saluted. Two solid trials to get ready, so the grounding is there to run well fresh.
1 Princess Bojack (Bet Now: $13.00) is a 1000m horse, so back to the five furlongs is a big tick for her. Ran over 1200m last time out and just found the six furlongs too far for her speedy legs behind Startantes. Saves her best for Eagle Farm and the 1000m, so she can bounce back.
Race 5. (15:42) The Montague Htl,west End-bm75 1805m
10 Southern Stock (Bet Now: $5.00) is the x factor. He could easily blow this field away and potentially head to Melbourne for the Derby. I don’t think it was a strong field last time out, but he gave them an absolute galloping lesson and toyed with them, winning by an absolute space. Tick over trial was good, proven at the track/distance…he’ll take beating.
4 Youngblood (Bet Now: $5.00) has found winning form and he can right on with it. Was knocking on the door to win one this prep and it came two weeks ago at Toowoomba. Took a while to get there and wanted to lay in, but finished best. Got improvement/upside to come and is hard to beat.
7 Aswaat (Bet Now: $4.20) is flying for Rob Heathcoate and confident she can get back into the winners list. Impressive winner two back at Eagle Farm before going to the Gold Coast three weeks ago where she got a mile back in the run and spotted those in front too much head start when third to Spanish Point. Like her here and if she’s within range 400m out, I think she’ll go very close.
Race 6. (16:22) Harrisons Menswear (bm72) 1400m
5 Alpendurada (Bet Now: $7.00) can be a big improver here second up. Rob Heathcoate trained gelding that resumed at Doomben where the market kept him safe at around the $6.50 mark. It was a messy race. Jimmy Orman on the leader and eventual winner Montenegro Man went barrier trial speed in front, ensuring nothing from the back was beating him. Alpendurada pulled hard in the run and had nothing left for the straight. Second up on a track he loves, he can bounce back hard.
7 Jack The Lad (Bet Now: $7.50) had taken a little while to get a win on the board for the prep but now he has got that win on the board, I think he can go right on with it. That win came at the Doomben midweeks when sitting back off the speed but coming with such a well timed run out wide to nab them late. He’ll be hard to hold out.
3 Dreamtimer (Bet Now: $21.00) is a proven city performer for Kevin Kemp and is in with a shout here. Close up behind Iced fresh at Toowoomba. Raced there again two weeks back where he attempted to lead throughout and gave a good kick, just feeling the pinch late when fourth to Don’t Stop. Is a winner at Eagle Farm and his best is good enough.
Race 7. (17:02) Nudgee College Old Boy's Cup 1400m
I’m very interested in 2 Apache Chase (Bet Now: $2.005). Could he put his hand up for the Golden Eagle? Backed with confidence first up in the Weetwood at Toowoomba and though there to be run down, he found under pressure, fended them off and was too good. Go back to last prep, he did beat former Golden Eagle favourite Ayrton in the Fred Best. That reads well for this.
Fitter and up to 1400m should be ideal for 5 Snitch (Bet Now: $20.00). Had specking at odds when resuming in the Weetwood and he didn’t run a bad race in defeat from the back behind Apache Chase. Good second up record and getting to 1400m, he has to be given some respect.
4 Flash Aah (Bet Now: $20.00) should be suited up to 1400m. This guy was backed at a price in the Weetwood first up. He was dragged back from the wide gate and was never a winning threat, but did make up ground and was more than sound in defeat. Sharp second up record, he can take this out for sure.
Race 8. (17:38) Queensland Cup 2406m
2 Honorable Spirit (Bet Now: $2.80) is an in form horse for John Smerdon. The question being, can he run 2400m? He looked the winner two weeks ago in the Toowoomba Cup when looming alongside Wapiti but that horse just found plenty under pressure and was too good. If he runs the 2400m, he likely wins. But it’s a genuine query.
3 Navy Cross (Bet Now: $4.80) is a tough stayer for the WaterBott camp that was too bad to be true at this track two back. Then went to the Gold Coast and bounced back to his best with a dominant win. Tick over trial last week was a good piece of work…the concern being his Eagle Farm run two back was a howler. Will he handle the track?
1 He Runs Away (Bet Now: $8.50) should love the rise to 2400m for Chris Waller. He got a fair way back in the run two weeks back in the Toowoomba Cup and closed off alright without being a winning threat behind impressive winner Wapiti. He is a winner at 2500m so 2400m will be no issue and is in the right camp.
Race 9. (18:18) Story Bridge Hotel (bm80) 1200m
6 She Za Boss (Bet Now: $6.00) is a daughter of Rothesay for Team Edmonds that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since April 24 at Doomben when down the track behind Skins, but was a tired horse towards the end of the prep. Can sprint well fresh and has had four trials to get ready, so has had a good grounding.
9 Ingear (Bet Now: $2.80) is a few weeks between runs for Tony Gollan since resuming with an all the way win at Eagle Farm. Good ticker shown by her because she was there to be run down but found plenty under pressure and was too good. Harder here, but she’s in the right camp and is down in the weights.
2 Prioritise (Bet Now: $26.00) has had a mini freshen up for Steve Tregea, seven weeks between runs since a solid effort over the mile here behind an in form Baanone. That was his third run in as many weeks, so he has had a mini break. Back to 1200m suggests he might need the run, but overall, this race is a tad thin.
